I've noticed that I'm always staring at airplanes. Nobody around me even notices them, but I stare at them.

I'm 41, it's been this way since I was like 5, I'm just fascinated by anything that's flying. I know most lists of traits that I see mention fascination with spinning objects, but never flying objects. Does anyone else have a fascination with planes/helicopters?

I am always amazed at these machines. In my opinion, flying is by far the most outstanding achievement humans have done in their entire existance here on Earth. I still get all giddy when I ride in them. I am thinking about how amazing it is that it all works, while the person next to me is acting like it is no big deal. I am in my fourties and still, whenever we leave the ground, I am just as excited as the first time I rode in one, at twelve years old.

I've been noticing over the past few months that I do a lot of things that other people don't do. Like staring at planes/helicopters. (This was my big special interest as a kid, so it's no surprise I guess.). This is just one of many things about myself that I either never noticed or just thought was a quirk. Now I have a simple explanation for all of it!

Aviation is a lifelong interest of mine. I build model airplanes, the non flying variety, and visit air museums whenever I can.

Last summer I finally splurged on a ride in an open-cockpit biplane (at Old Rhinebeck, not far from you). It was pretty awesome. For twenty minutes I was Eddie Rickenbacker in his SPAD XIII, scouting for prey in the skies over Verdun. 8)

I've always had a fascination with planes and helicopters, especially the old war ones.

Me not with normal commercial airliners but more of the war machines that fly. That a10 warthog always whewed me growing up. Now seeing one fly in the field that was cool. I cant imagen nothing scarier then that distinctive hum at a cruising by slow since they are not made for speed. But that 30 mm GAU 8 chain gun is fast. Over 4000 rounds per mintue of depleted uranium or high explovive 30 mm is scary if it spots ya. Yeah I love that stuff now I think about it haha but I love firearms more. That is something that I was always into since like 8 years old and I did not shoot intill 18 just knew more history and how actions worked then most.people. To bad gun smithing is really no longer a realistic career. Almost a lost art now.
