Warning: long post!

So in a few days I'm going for a trial day at a new school. I have someone who goes to the school with me all day so I don't get lost.

The thing is, I don't know what to say to them. Should I act "normal" and hide the real me (although I've only been able to do this for about 10 minutes maximum before I say something weird and then I get stressed and say more weird things)?

I want to have a fresh start, but I don't know how to keep acting normal for more than ten minutes. Then I thought, maybe I should just be myself... But that really hasn't worked before, since I got bullied and isolated from other people because I tend to talk about my special interests too much, I need to have more time to process what someone's said, and I don't understand quite a few sarcastic comments, I take things too literally. I also stim, which has led to people imitating me and calling me names.

Should I act normal, or be myself? Also, how can I be normal for longer?

I'm pretty nervous. :(

Not sure I understand. You say have someone to help you from getting lost, so doesn't that person know you have autism? I mean I had a helper to take me to my classes the semester I tried regular school, but he knew I was autistic and that's why I needed the help.

No they don't know, which is why I'm worried, I guess I could tell them but then I'm worried they'll treat me differently like a few other people I've told... I might say "I'm not that good at socialising" without directly mentioning autism :| I'm not really sure what to do.

I think the best thing to do is to walk around the grounds, getting to know the landmarks which are associate with where you are going. Autistic people do this all the time. Even NT's sometimes have a bad sense of direction.

I wouldn't go around telling people you're autistic. Just say you have a bad sense of direction.

Thank you for replying :) I think I will be myself, but if I say something weird I'll say something like "sorry, I'm not that good at talking to people".

Be yourself, If you don't like them you could try to change them, but you can always talk to them and make it stop, I know what you mean, It can take me a while to get used to people especially if they are prejudice. Alot of people are because of organizations like Autism Speaks. If you are your self you can just break there stereotypes which can be beneficial. Also, this will help them in the future for if they think we're dumb, which we tend to not be. Then they won't think that. I've done this many times before

Yeah, I would only tell your teachers, for most of my Peers aren't mature enough to handle that, information, but you teachers should definitely know.
