My sensory sensitivity is hurting my health
Hey everyone.
So I never talk about my taste and texture sensitivity because I've been in denial that I have one, but my dad insists that I do and I never believed him but now I'm starting to see what he means.
First of all my range of what I can eat is limited. I like things that are sweet, and if it's not sweet I'm gonna starve. Anything I don't like I cover in sugar or ketchup.
Now that I live on my own and have my own income I buy my own groceries, which I enjoy the freedom. But I'm on welfare and it's about $320.00 a month and I spend about $200.00 a month on food give or take. The rest I buy supplies for my animals and also some entertainment purposes. The food I buy mostly consists of Kraft dinner (for those who don't know what Kraft dinner is, it's a very cheap "Mac and cheese" easy meals) and the rest is just like milk, butter, bread, and of course diet cola (there's some other stuff but I can't really remember)
I like Kraft dinner, it's pretty much the only thing I have an appetite for but I'm starting to feel not very healthy.. I'm dizzy and black out sometimes, I'm tired all the time, I get really bad stomach pains that feels like there's lava in my belly, my wounds aren't healing very well. My hands and feet are almost always cold too.
There are other things I eat, like if my dad cooks a meal sometimes he'll share it with me like vegetable soup or you know, real nourishment but it's rare. I also buy some TV dinners.
My point is I am not good at cooking and the whole experience of cooking drives me to tears and the food I like to eat is A. Limited and B. Expensive.
What should I do?
(Ps, this took an hour to write I can't write anymore)

Hi, Zombie. I sympathize with you. I'm very picky when it comes to certain foods, but just recently started doing diets with my wife to try and get us healthier. Taking a look at what you consistently buy, it looks like you're not getting enough protein, iron, and nutrients from meat, fruits and vegetables. Most of your diet looks to be grain and dairy, which are two very harsh food groups if they're on the stomach for a long time. Too much dairy and grain are known to cause gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance. I used to eat dairy every single day--specifically cheese--and ended up becoming very lactose intolerant because of it. Intolerance can cause painful stomach cramps and lower intestinal issues for days. Also, a lack of iron is caused by not enough meat and protein, and is known to cause anemia, which results in vertigo, dizziness, and black outs.
If you have trouble eating certain foods to get nutrients, you can always try things like V8 juices--the ones that taste like fruit but have real veggies in them, too. I drink those on and off, and they do wonders for my energy. As far as protein goes, I recommend eating a lot of red meat, as it's rich in iron. Trail mix loaded with nuts is a great way to get healthy fats and protein as well, which will boost your energy. But if you're having trouble eating any meat, you might want to consider investing in some iron tablets or chewables. Adding a multivitamin to your daily diet wouldn't hurt.
I hope this helps out! Sorry, I don't mean to come off as a dietary professional or anything. My mom is a health nut so I take after her an awful lot, especially when it comes to trying to eat healthy. My own family is full of picky eaters, so cooking is stressful and time consuming for us, because half the stuff we cook, we barely eat. However there are some quick ways to sauté veggies and meat that don't take long and taste really good. Seafood cooks very fast and is very easy to prepare, and there are some vegetables that are extremely versatile, like potatoes, leaks, and onions. I'm not much of a cook. The most I cook are pancakes or waffles for my daughter in the mornings, but I do know a thing or two about preparing fast lunches and dinners when needed.
