I am particularly sensitive to sounds, touch and light, and if I get too many stimuli from all these senses I feel like exploding. I get irritable, I get headaches, I find it hard to do things and I just have to go to a dark or semi-dark and quiet room where I can't be bothered by anything. Being in a bed under the blankets helps a lot.

On particular days, these sensory issues get so bad I can barely function. The more stimuli, the less I seem to function. The other day I felt like running away and crying....too many people talking at once in one room, loud voices, lights, people touching me, kids screaming....I couldn't take it anymore so I went to a room alone and was unable to function, like I was unable to hold a conversation or listen, and I noticed I didn't even want to talk (or couldn't?). I hadn't even slept much so it was worse. When I don't sleep as much as I want I'm even more sensitive to stimuli.

Does this sound like sensory overload? Is it normal I feel like I struggle thinking, listening and even speaking when this happens?

Sounds like overload to me.

That about describes how it is for me too. I feel like I want to scream (and usually hum), I want nothing more then to get out of there, I have to close my eyes and cover my ears, I have trouble functioning, I have a hard time talking and interacting with people, and to get better I have to be alone for at least an hour or two. It happened to me rather recently and it was the worse it has been in a while. So yeah, I'd definitely call that a sensory overload.

It takes hours to get better for me too. Some days are horrible, others are much better and I can handle things better. I guess I prevent overload a lot by staying in my room alone to "recharge". I also think it got worse lately.
