Hello everyone. I'm new here and new to the knowledge in general. I was at an Ortho doc appt Thur to confirm that I've thorasic outlet syndrome nerve damage stuck in my arms from an accident two years ago. I commented to him about my appt earlier that day with an ENT doctor who found no reason to explain my 3 month ear pain/echo and was bug eyed at my hearing tests that put my hearing range well more than the norm. He got a knowing look in his eye and started asking me questions before telling me that both his wife and son have what he's certain I have and declared me high-functioning autistic/asperger syndrome. Recommended a couple diet books, told me to google, and about this site. Wiki reading led me to the 50 question autistic test and I scored 32, hands down in the autistic range. Lot more reading and I'm pretty relieved to see so much of what I've always worried about is actually this and I'm 'not crazy'. And I only thought I had celiacs...

So here it is Sat and after having a hard time sleeping last night and I tried looking up about getting a formal diagnosis. Tried looking online, got shocked into panic mode seeing the ucla clinic $4400 diagnosis price tag not covered by most insurance, then overwhelmed by the results of search engines and generally not really knowing what I'm looking for.

Could you please recommend to me where to go about getting formally diagnosed in Los Angeles, CA? I don't have money like ucla wants, hell rent would be nice much less anything else. I'm 24 and on my own here.

Thanks,
~Artkitten

Hi Artkitten,

Perhaps this organization may be able to refer you to an affordable place for diagnosis:

Check out the listings for California on this site also. I don't know how accurate it is, but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck.

i had a horrible time trying to find someone anywhere in southern california who would even discuss diagnosing an adult with autism/aspergers. my fiance did some checking (she has a degree in psychology and knew better what to look for) and found dr. crothers in thousand oaks.

she was very professional and the the meeting and assessment only cost me $200.

that link has everything you need to get in contact with her.

realizing you're not really "just crazy" is incredible, isn't it?
