I have all my life had an interest in disabilities- what I call a background special interest has resulted over the past ten years or so. It isn't totally obsessive like some of my major special interests can be, and it will often centre on different conditions.
I normally express my interests through writing fiction and through pretending to be characters related to the interest.
Of course I could never go round pretending to have a disability I don't have and would never dream of acting anything like that aloud.
At the moment my interest is very centred around the condition locked in syndrome. I worked with a boy at my school (we'll call him E) who has the condition and found him both an awesome person and a big inspiration. I recently downloaded software onto my computer which allows me to use my webcam in a similar way to his Tobii eye gaze technology.
My main point for this post is the fact that I want to write about the condition but don't want to offend people who have LIS or anything. I love to research and would learn as much as possible about the condition as I could for writing purposes.
Is this an interest which you would consider too offensive/intrusive
Would my writing offend people?
Thank you

I wouldn't find that offensive.

As long as you don't insult somebody with Locked-in Syndrome, I don't see how offensive it can be to such a person. I wouldn't be 100 percent positive--unless somebody with LIS actually states that he/she is not offended by it.

WP has the potential to be a salvation/revelation for people with Locked-In Syndrome.

I wonder if there's ever been anybody on WP who has that condition.

Maybe if you write about it, it might inspire someone with LIS to post.

To me, it would be fascinating to read the thoughts of such a person.

I, myself, would like to learn more about it.

I think your interest could be damn useful, just be careful what you do with it
