I think in words, meaning I hear myself speak in my mind as if I were talking out loud. I guess I've never quite understood what it means to think in pictures. I do see pictures in my mind that go along with my verbal thoughts, and I can easily rotate images in my mind, etc. However, these pictures are only a supplement to my verbal thoughts. I can think in words alone, but I can't think in pictures alone, or at least I can't apply or convey any meaning to the pictures without using words.
I wondered about this too. most people do hear a voice in their head similar to if they were talking to themselves, this is a inner dialogue. this alone doesnt dictate whether you are a visual or verbal thinker. Try these;
Are your Memories dominantly dialogue based or detailed images in your head?
When you plan things out do you hear that inner dialogue or do you picture how thing will go.
How do you learn; do you need diagrams, videos and pictures or can you accurately remember what is written and said to you?
Some people are very balanced and can do both equally as well while others depend on one form of thinking. Most visual thinkers will use imagery for problem solving and other with need verbal help.
For me i do have an inner dialogue but i dominantly use mental imagery to better interpret what people are saying and how im taught.
