I'm curious, were there any instances around here of folks self-diagnosing themselves with autism, only later to find out they in fact had another disorder, like schizophrenia for example?

From posts I have read over the years I have been here, it seems to be the other way around for many - people sought help and were misdiagnosed with a psychiatric condition because the ASD diagnosis was missed at first. Any condition can be comorbid with ASD though, some people have dual diagnosis (or even more than that).

It's quite rare here.

I've seen false OFFICIAL diagnoses here---where the person was diagnosed on the Spectrum as a child, say, then diagnosed with something else later, rather than on the Spectrum.

This arose after doubts came into the picture, and the person got he/herself reevaluated.

There was a member here who had a kid that was diagnosed on the spectrum so she believed she had it too. She went and got evaluated and she had Sensory processing disorder, not autism. One of my online friends who I used to talk to who also came here, he believed he fit the AS criteria but we went to get evaluated and they said he had schizoid personality disorder but they said he had AS traits but felt Schizoid fit him more.
