I don't see why people with ASD from my knowledge wouldn't like fiction I mean prefering non-fiction is differnet from not liking fiction. After Atempting to update my scores. On AQ, and Aspie quiz. I though this question was stupid. I mean if anything, wouldn't that spark your c reativity?

I love fiction, and I'd argue that most other Aspies do as well. And it does spark my creativity more often than not.

I selectively enjoy fiction, provided I can identify with one character. If I can't find a character in a book who I can identify with I rapidly lose any interest.

I tend to be one of those who has to say that, yes, I actually prefer non-fiction to fiction, and I tend to read far more non-fiction percentage-wise than fiction. I'm looking at my bookshelves and I have five and a half shelves of non-fiction to just two shelves housing my fiction.

I do like some fiction but I'm extremely picky about it -- I tend to enjoy classics more than any modern or recent fiction. If it's recent it has to be very, very well written.

I think one of the reasons I find it harder to enjoy just any fiction is that I often find it to be a pointless waste of time if it's not well written. When that's the case I'd rather be reading something that's either informing me of something I didn't know, or is about a special interest.

I have no problem in this way with movies though. For some reason I will watch any movie even though they're fiction.

I think a lot of people on the spectrum don't like fiction, but it is a stereotype, and lots do as well. I know plenty of Aspies who are into creative writing. I personally enjoy fiction, though I sometimes have trouble concentrating on it.

Oddly enough, I do enjoy creative writing, it's one of my things I'm fairly good at, yet at the same time I'm fonder of non-fiction in my reading habits, than fiction.

I'd rather write fiction than read it. That's a weird one.

Whilst it can be immensely difficult for me to follow plots and understand a character's intentions, I do enjoy reading fiction. However, I particularly struggle with sci-fi and fantasy novels as my imagination is almost non-existent.

I personally like reading fiction, as well as writing it.

This topic did come up in my assessment, actually.

When I was asked how I felt about fiction and non-fiction, I immediately imagined this being the difference between reading a novel and leafing through an encyclopedia. I said I didn't have a clue which I preferred, because aren't they for totally different purposes? How could the two compare?

My husband pointed out that I do enjoy fiction stories, but not fantasy and adventure books. More, fiction with a strong sense of reality. And also, non-fiction created more as a novel. Authors like Cathy Glass and Jodi Picoult. I also enjoyed The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, which is the closest thing to 'never going to happen' type fiction as I have ever enjoyed. Mostly, I like to believe that what I'm reading could really happen and is really happening. Too much fantasy and imagination takes me out of that.

I love writing stories based on my imaginary friends set in my imaginary world! It's awesome.

I like fiction. I always did. I don't see where the stereotype comes from. Probably from the same source as the one saying we lack imagination.

I love fiction. Fiction is actually one of my special interests.
