This might sound stupid but I want to get it off my chest: a childhood friend unfollowed me on a social media site, so I sent her a text message asking her why and she never responded. She still follows me on another social media site, which I don't understand because why not just unfollow both?
Was I wrong to text her about it?

It wasn't wrong for you to text her about it, but she's probably not good with confrontation. As for not unfollowing on both, are there any specific reasons why she would unfollow you on just one? As an example, following somebody on Facebook will result in your news feed being spammed with notifications of that person's activity.

I would not enjoy being in a position where I was being conditioned to care about such things.

I find facebook overwhelming but not because of people (that too but its no different than real life issues). I just can't get the interface. There is so many options that are hidden to me. I am a computer freak and there is usually nothing I couldn't find in any program or website but facebook is somehow messed up. I know how to use some options but I am often surprised what NT people are able to do. There is so many options I have no idea about and so many ways I am used to just doesn't work on fb. What looks like a link ends up being a plain text, what I would think to take me to a place takes me somewhere else, lots of icons that I can't understand meaning of...

My NT friend that can't find a pdf that is in the 1st place of google when you simply type the title (because he uses wrong keywords) is able to move around the facebook "like a fish in a sea" while I - an IT specialist - get lost on the stupid social website.

Sometimes, people don't think about the other social media sites on which they have accounts. People just do a lot of random stuff on social media.

Yes! That is my experience with Facebook as well! I can't navigate around it either! Post on someone's wall, post on someone's timeline, post on someone's this or that.... I find it confusing too! :? I thought I was the only one who has a problem navigating but I'm relieved to know there are others who can't figure out FB either! 8) Thanks for describing this Kiriae!

Aside from the difficulties in navigating the site because of its horrific interface, I also find Facebook simply aesthetically displeasing. The colours are cold and sterile, and the default fonts and font size make the text difficult to read. I think the whole site is a web design nightmare.

I find social media very overwhelming and mostly do not participate on-line except here.

I am on facebook because I need to be as part of promoting my business. However all but my closest of friends are 'unfollowed'. The most overwhelming part of social media I find is the absolute dearth of interest. The newsfeed especially will just be an endless spiel of silly banners, small talk, attention seeking garb. I don't get it at all.

As for the unfollowing bit. I thought it didn't tell the other person they were being unfollowed nowadays? If it does then Oops...Sorry to all my 'friends' you were far too boring and I had to unfollow you for my own sanity :)

I find the great thing about social media is that I can really open up (as you probably guess from my posts) and whereas in a face to face situation I would mumble or struggle to find my way into and through conversations, I can talk (type) quite freely without those limitations and also read back to see what I am saying is not (too) offensive. That is often a weakpoint when face to face that I am battling to get into or through conversations that my mouth can speak the words before my brain has passed the words as OK and oops, I have to quickly dig myself out of a hole.

I also like forums on my hobbies because I can use the confidence trapped inside me to convey what I want to say rather than appear shy in a face to face scenario. The internet has been very very beneficial to me.

I suppose in work too. e-commerce, no face to face dealing, no need to be in an office of backstabbing agenda driven people. I love the internet and most forms of social media for that. Just wish the 'small talk / chitter chatter' aspect would not be there. lol

Just because someone has "un-followed" you does not mean that they aren't following you at all, it means they don't want the Facebook notices. They may just be looking you up on their own time, I unsubscribe to keep my various inboxes light and only containing the absolute essential content. I have a weekly or daily routine to look up all else non essential.

I'm of the era before social media and never felt obligated to engage through social media or to be bothered by such things as being unfollowed etc. I have never developed any emotional connection with events in the social media so where I have been unfollowed or any other such thing I either don't know about it or if I find out I just don't care or might even find it amusing because others take such things seriously.

Nope, not just you. I only like Tumblr, I think it's an awesome network to focus on special interests and not you/others!

The only one I use at all is FB and yeah I find it totally overwhelming. I routinely purge my friends list to keep it small. I wouldn't take it personally if someone unfollowed or unfriended me...I probably wouldn't even notice anyway...but I mean I have unfriended a lot of people and it wasn't because I wanted to reject them or slight them in some way. I just didn't feel comfortable having that kind of interaction with them.

I have a Facebook account simply so I can use the developer side of it. I think I have 14 contacts on there - I see very little point in it and only go there if required.

It's a visual headache.
