When I turned 16 years ago, I felt some social pressure to learn how to drive. Now I'm 24, don't feel a lot of social pressure, but if I would prefer if I had my own transportation. On the other side of things, I'm worried about having to concentrate on the road and inside the vehicle at the same time, a couple people even told me they would never see me drive a car, and it will take a very long time to learn to drive.

I don't know if getting a learner's permit, especially at 24, in my state is worth it, but I'm not getting younger. I'd still prefer the independence I can get from driving myself places than relying and having to schedule ahead for public transport. I also want to attract more types of girls, a girl won't be attracted to me because I'm like a lazy person who doesn't have a car.

Well first forget the girls thing. From my expierence girls wont give a damn about you having a car or not. And the type of girl that does, one should avoid them anyway.

But i say go for it. I got my license as soon as i could because it meant indipendence. Something that was always very important for me. I took much more lessons than average, i failed every test at least twice, but i still got my license in the end. The freedom you have with owning a car is just like nothing else. You dont need to rely on timetables anymore (And to be honest, if public transport lines arent a special interest of yours, they are kinda annoying if you need to go somewhere new), you can avoid the crowd, you are much more flexible. And many jobs require you to have a drivers license.

Peace

Exactly this. But how do I convince my parents that it should be OK for them?

I'd say go for it too :) I was told when I was 19 by my driving instructor that there was no way on Earth I would ever get my license, but he was wrong. I got my license at age 20 (a few months later) and passed my road test on my first attempt. With driving, practice makes perfect. For me, I was able to convince my mom by telling her that with a license and a car, she wouldn't have to drive me to doctor's appointments, college classes, or work. Good luck! :D

Why do you need your parents to say its ok? Where i live the only things you need to obtain a drivers license are
- Beeing at least 18 years old
- eye examination
- first aid training
- money - lots of it

Anyway - I would just be completely honest. "Mom/Dad look. I am now 24 years old, a full grown adult man. I want to be more independant, i wanna learn how to drive"

If you really want it then go for it.
For me the problem with learning to drive has nothing to do with the actual driving part (I'm fine with driving). Its the cost, with no job there's currently no way that I'll be able to afford to pay for driving lessons and the test fees. Let alone buying/insuring a car.

But yeah don't let anything put you off getting your license.
