i think i sometimes pace as well.

i did this ever since i was born i think.

Yes, rocking back and forth is very common in autism.

I find rocking soothing.

Yes it is, i notice when I'm deep in thought or thinking about something important or just excited i notice I rock from side to side while either twirling my hair or picking at my lips. It takes me a while though before I'm even aware that i'm doing it. Either that or someone points it out to me and ask why am I doing it.

People with ADHD or anxiety disorders do this too and so do schizophrenics so it's not just in autism.

That is true. Are you trying to find out if you if you might be an Aspie? If so then I wouldn't count on this symptom alone as for deciding if you are one or not. If you already know you are and just want to know if this is one trait that is associated with Aspie, then yes, yes it is lol Hope that helped

I've already been diagnosed and I also have an anxiety disorder and been diagnosed with ADD as a child. But is it a symptom for me or not I don't know.

I'm not sure if rocking is exclusive to autism.

However, I do find myself rocking in my chair at work from time to time.

I think lots of people do it. I do it if I'm bored or really upset. People with autism probably rock more often than most people.

Rocking is only a behavior, one that is common to a lot of unrelated disorders, and one that is also perfectly normal.

If you saw a teenaged girl rocking back and forth, would you automatically assume that she was autistic? Would it ever occur to you that she might be having menstrual cramps?

Or would you instead come to the conclusion that autism and menstruation are related conditions?

I Find rocking soothing but it is a form of stimming though I never done it naturally, I done other things such as bitting shirts, and etc.

I noticed in high school kids would rock in their chairs. They did it before class would start and sometimes during class but I did it more often than them.

I tend to rock back and forth a lot when I'm anxious (I have been diagnosed with both an Autism Spectrum Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder), I did it a lot in classes and now I do it in other stressful situations, such as doctor's office waiting rooms and in long lines at stores.

I catch myself rocking back and forth a little while listening to my music. I prefer to call it a trait.
