I'm struggling. I realized I had autism about 2 months ago, I was tested 3 days ago and am now waiting for the results.

No one in my family seems to care, I don't hear from anybody, nobody's asked about the testing. I feel like I need to talk to someone, but I don't have anyone. My own mother, who I told about this 2 months ago, still hasn't even bothered to look up autism online to see what it is. Hopefully once the diagnosis is made, I can get some help and figure out how to leave my room and make some friends but I'm tired of waiting here alone.

If you live in St. Petersburg here is where you may be able to get help.

There isn't much in the way of adult services anywhere that I know of.

Do you think your mother may also be on the autism spectrum? It would not be unusual and may explain some things.

Most people are very self centered, some are not.

I have observed some parents praising their child for being so succesful, yet the younger brother is invisible because he is the 'rebel' or not performing at levels high enough to be mention worthy. Psychological problems are sometimes taboo to talk about.

This world can be cruel, i feel for you. Try to get help from a support group.

My parents don't really give two s**ts about me, my mum in particular. She's too absorbed in how she wants be to be to even give a hoot about my happiness. I also feel for you.

This website looks great, thank you so much. I've looked for support groups online but haven't been able to find much, the doctor who did my testing said they'd be able to provide recommendations once the tests come back, but PARC looks like it could help. I'll give them a call.

I don't think so, about my mother being on the spectrum. I'd lean more towards psychopath, in her world, she's all that matters. Unfortunately, I'm stuck living with her right now so it's not an ideal situation.

Thanks to all who responded, I appreciate it. The alone thing is just really getting to me, I've got to find a way to make some friends.

greetings all,

i hope that you can find some acceptance within yourself. our parents, friends and loved ones sometimes just don't get it. i too am struggling with all of this at times. it is very new to me as well. i don't understand your pain personally, however i can empathize with what you are saying.

the one thing i have found, even though only on this site for a very short time is that there are many of us, we are all in this together and i believe that we are here to help one another get through our things...

with peace,

JanusOne :D

I've been doing that for the past 6 months now. I've come a long way. What I do is give myself the unconditional love that I felt my parents never gave me.
