anyone else have trouble with fireworks and other festive explosives? if you have to experience them, how do you cope?

tonight i'm supposed to go to a fireworks show with some friends and i don't get to be with these people all at once very often so i'm really trying to go...but i'm worried i'll have too many sensory issues and my friends will think i don't want to be with them or something.
only one person going is aware i'm autistic but she has social anxiety issues of her own so she's probably going to be too worried about herself to be able to helpful to me.
any advice or similar concerns??

i'm seriously considering just getting really drunk. but that comes with its own problems haha :shaking:

Watching them from a farther distance than the rest of the crowds seems to solve any sensory overload that I might experience from fireworks.

I love firework shows for some reason. I guess the bright colors help me tolerate the booms. Although I do wear earphones/earmuffs during the show. It does kinda push the envelope for me with sensory overload. But all the same can't wait for tonight and want a front row seat.

Now that it's over, I hope it ended up being OK! I'm glad for you that you had a group of friends. I have to learn to make friends.

It's probably too late now but have you tried ear plugs? I really enjoy going to a firework show occasionally as I know when to expect the bang.

I live next to a park and have problems when people go there to randomly let them off, in November in the UK, as I don't know when it's going to happen.
