I don't suppose there's any sure-fire way to figure out who's going to do the most for the disabled, but I gather it's generally thought that the left have more of a political will to do that, and Trump seems a tad more right-wing than the alternative. Last time I looked, the general idea was that the republicans are the right-wingers and the democrats the lefties. Granted, there are very few politicians with much real interest in anything left-wing, but if one considers it worth voting at all, it would make sense to choose the one who's (relatively) on the left, from the point of view of looking after the interests of the disabled and ordinary people in general. And I heard that Trump has said something rather dismissive of the disabled, though I don't know quite what he said.

Having said that, my best guess is that it'll make little or no difference who gets into power. The current president has been accused of socialism, but while I was in the USA I didn't see anything at the grass roots level that was particularly helping the disabled to get accommodations and benefits. Mostly everything looks good on paper, but when the client tries to access these goodies, it's another story entirely. So I don't trust any of the politicians, but I trust Trump the least because he looks like one who may well actively make things worse for us.

so you're saying I should be more put down so that an already comfortable NT may be made more comfortable?

The informed people accuse Obama of being even worse than Bush. And Clinton is just another one of them. Trump has talked about not fighting in Syria on two fronts while Hilary wants to get rid of Assad which helps IS. I think it's time Americans start paying more attention to the foreign policies of the candidates. I could show you a video which would change your mind. Clinton is a compulsive liar and a psychopath killer. Trump is a nasty piece of work and an egotistical maniac. I'd vote for Jill Stein.

Do you think children in Yemen being blown up by US and UK weapons are more comfortable because they are "NT"?

Hi I found this a while back. I know it is not about elections but about a vaccine. The insert on the Tripedia DPT shots do say that Autism can be a side effect of this vaccine. I thought it was interesting. If the company is willing to admit it then I think it should be it should be looked into more. I plan to do more research on it but like I said I found this very interesting in light of all the debates on the issue.

While it's true for the most part that Democrats are better for people for disabilities there are some drawbacks to consider, namely immigration and free healthcare. The fact is that the influx of illegal immigrants has created a glut of kids on the spectrum in certain areas of tristate ny. The tax base did not increase significantly while the number of students has (illegal immigrants work for cash and their kids go to school). Schools districts are running out of money on Long Island and NY because special needs kids cost a lot and immigration jump is not proportional to tax increase. Also while theoretically free healthcare is great in practice it creates huge lines and lowers quality. In the future autistic patients who have issues waiting in line will need to wait for hours at medical facilities. For the most part it's true hat Democrats are better for people with disabilities but it's not all black and white.

Let's keep in mind that being Autistic (I am myself, as are my two young adult kids) causes us to tend to believe what's being said even when it's a blatant lie.

I'm not saying that anyone is blatantly lying (meaning the candidates) but (for those of you who are old enough - I don't know the general age on the forum) hearken back to all of the elections where SO MANY promises were made by whoever was running at that particular time ... and the *majority* of the promises were broken, they were said *simply* to appeal to voters. Once they were in office the promises were forgotten and/or done completely opposite as promised.

Just because 'she' says she's 'about Autism' ... With her record what qualifies her to gain anyone's absolute support, including those with Autism (or Autistics should anybody be politically offended by the usage of a word)?

Maybe when Trump ends up in office he'll be more open to things that need to be changed, such as support for those adults with Autism as well as *their* families as well. Just because my kids are young adults now doesn't mean that it no longer affects me tremendously financially (and mentally/emotionally frankly).

*What* have we got to lose by voting him in? No one can say for sure that Hillary will follow through and I believe that with her record there are more people that *don't* trust her than do.

I don't care that he's offended people, heck he's offended me as a woman, but Hillary has offended me in a lot more ways than Trump has.

I don't believe her for a second; I believe that she's using the Autism platform to get votes from the massive amount of us that there are.

I also struggle with voting for the independents not because I don't agree with them but rather because my vote won't matter a damn thing (in regard to T vs. H) if I vote for someone other than one of the two major.

Unfortunately, the electoral votes decide it and those folks are *not* required to follow their state's vote.

Trump wins popular vote, but Hillary gets put into office because of the idiot electoral votes.

One guy who has an electoral vote has already come out and publicly stated that he will not vote for Trump even if Trump wins the popular vote in that guy's state.

So IMHO there's a *lot* more corruption in this election than meets the eye, and the corruption is going to get worse and worse if H is voted in...

Why did she have that mom and dad on her stage? To win those votes.

But what about Benghazi? She and Obama both refused to help (she was 'resting' and he was on vacation based on what I read) and we lost several great men ... and then recently she laughed about it, on camera, along with saying "what does it matter now?".

Do we really want someone like that, someone who feels no regret no nothing except humor when they have a hand (direct or indirect) in the killing?

Sure I had a hand in the guys being killed (by not doing anything about it) but hey, he's dead now so what does it matter?

How about "hey yeah sure I had an indirect hand in the death of many people with Autism but those people are dead now so what does it matter, they're gone so it's over and done with". (Obviously an over-the-top example but sometimes that's what's needed to bring those of us with Autism back into reality)

I've also read that the majority of top army/navy/etc. officials as well as retired vets are voting for T. That's got to say something right?

But, to each his own... (and I do truly mean that - we all have a right to vote for who we wish without being attacked for it so I do honestly mean it when I say 'to each his own'). :D

May the best most honest candidate win, whoever that might be...

Just focus on what politicians do rather than what they say. Clinton will say anything to get elected and look convincing as she's a well trained liar.

Clinton also laughed about going to war with Iran. And just look at how she boasts and laughs about getting some guy's sentence reduced after he battered and raped a young girl. Pretending she cares about autism doesn't make this stuff go away.

the unfortunate truth is that neither of these wannabe Presidents (Trump and Clinton) actually care about the rights and liberties of those like myself on the Autism Spectrum and if they do its for all the wrong reasons.

I prefer the Libertarians.

I understand , and respect Alex Plank's right to his opinion . However , due to various issues , I have myself decided to commit to voting for the Green party candidate , Jill Stein . And I do not feel that it's very appropriate for our site to officially endorse one candidate over all others. Incidentally , the Greens mention disability rights in their platform too .

Quote:
6. Rights of the Disabled

We support the full enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act to enable all people with disabilities to achieve independence and function at the highest possible level. Government should work to ensure that children with disabilities are provided with the same educational opportunities as those without disabilities.

The physically and mentally challenged are people who are differently abled from the majority, but who are nevertheless able to live independently. The mentally ill are people with serious mental problems who often need social support networks. Physically and mentally challenged people have the right to live independently in their communities. The mentally ill also have the right to live independently, circumscribed only by the limitations of their illness. These people are their own best advocates in securing their rights and for living in the social and economic mainstream.

Current Medicaid policy forces many challenged people to live in costly state-funded institutions. Excluding these people from society alienates them; excluding them from the work force denies them the chance to use their potentials. The diminishing funds available to provide care for the growing number of the mentally ill often result in their homelessness, vagrancy and dependence on short-term crisis facilities. Lack of funding also increases the necessity of placing them in long-term, locked facilities. The Green Party urges the government to:

Increase rehabilitation funding so that persons with disabilities can pursue education and training to reach their highest potential. The differently abled should participate fully in the allocation decisions of state rehabilitation departments' funds.

Aggressively implement the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Fund in-home support services to allow the differently abled to hire personal care attendants while remaining at home.

Allocate adequate funding to support community-based programs that provide out-patient medical services, case management services and counseling programs. We should provide a residential setting within the community for those who do not need institutional care but who are unable to live independently.

Make it easier for the chronically mentally ill to apply for and receive Supplemental Security Income.

Mainstream the differently abled. Increase teacher training in regard to the needs of differently abled students.

Discourage stereotyping of the mentally and physically challenged by the entertainment industry and the media.

Fund programs to increase public sensitivity to the needs of the mentally ill and differently abled.

I have been hearing Trump open his vicious mouth making fun of those that are disabled and about Autism. How does Trump know he don't have a disorder such as Autism. One of his biggest problems is how to speak to people. He comes across to me as downright ignorant and the biggest liar on the face of this earth. Hillary is so much more supportive and much more honest.

I saved this because what Trump said about Autism and I have some real issues with these statements.

"Q [to Carson]: Donald Trump has publicly and repeatedly linked autism to childhood vaccines. Your opinion?
CARSON: There have been numerous studies, and they have not demonstrated that there is any correlation between vaccinations and autism.
Q [to Trump]: As president, you would be in charge of the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health, both of which say you are wrong.
TRUMP: Autism has become an epidemic. It has gotten totally out of control. I am totally in favor of vaccines. But I want smaller doses over a longer period of time. You take this little baby, and you pump--I mean, it looks like it's meant for a horse, not for a child. Just the other day, a 2-year-old child went to have the vaccine, and got a fever; now is autistic. I'm in favor of vaccines, do them over a longer period of time, same amount. And I think you're going to see a big impact on autism.

CARSON: We are probably giving way too many in too short a period of time. "

Trump is in need of some serious education about Autism. Thanks Alex, for showing us what an insensitive idiot Trump is.

I am terrified of Hillary being elected as our next President! I wouldn't be where I am right now if it weren't for the treasonous acts of when the Clintons were in the White House the first time! He put into place all the policies that allowed our jobs to leave like they did.

We have Bill Clinton to thank for the 'big sucking sound' of our manufacturing jobs leaving this country. I can't even begin to tell you how devastating that has been for me and many members of my family! So when Hillary talks about 'job creation', I don't believe her! I KNOW she is LYING! I go by what the Clintons HAVE DONE, NOT by what they SAY they WILL DO! Actions speak louder than words! And their track record stinks to high heaven! Why in the world would anyone want to allow them back in the White House?! They will finish off what is left of our Constitutional rights....forever!

Hillary does nothing but lie!

Trump may be bombastic, arrogant, and rough around the edges, but he tells it like it is. And as far as him making fun of the reporter with disabilities.....aren't people with disabilities always crying that they want to be treated like everyone else?! Well, that reporter was being an ass, so he deserved to be treated like anyone else who behaves rudely. But instead, now he 'hides' behind his disability instead of appreciating being treated like anyone else would have been treated, under the circumstances. Can't have it both ways. He either wants to be treated the same as any other human, or he wants 'special' exceptional treatment BECAUSE of his disability. And since he already dislikes Trump, he will 'conveniently hide' behind his disability and play this to the hilt to destroy Trump.

I want this horrible thing called 'Obamacare' abolished! We can't even use our insurance in many instances because the deductibles are now through the roof! And the Premiums are obscene! They are as high as a house payment! Never have we paid so much and gotten so little from our health care! Even our family doctor did a 180 after Obummercare was put into place! So I tried to find another doctor. Same thing! No wonder the ethical doctors are quitting! Only the unethical ones are willing to stay in practice under this farce called health care! It is price fixing at its finest! And the insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank. We're fools for allowing Obama to get away with this illegal mess! Trump wants to get rid of it....and replace it with more affordable health care. Hillary wants to keep Obamacare and make it more intrusive into our lives! (Translation=she wants to get into your medical records/privacy more and use your mental health record against you, and take away your right to own guns to protect yourself). Criminals will ALWAYS be able to obtain guns! But honest law-abiding citizens will be adversely affected by these infringements on our Constitutional rights!

Also, don't forget Nazi Germany's history.....when they took the guns away from the citizendry, they rounded them up and killed them.....they no longer had the ability to defend themselves. If one has ears to hear and eyes to see, then you can tell that this country is headed down that same path! Don't think it can happen here?! The citizens of Germany didn't think that anything like that could happen to them either! History has a tendency to repeat when we don't learn from it.

Yes, I am terrified at the very thought of Hillary becoming President! I know that if she is elected, we are done as a country.
