I used to get attacked by members here when I first joined WP for bumping old threads. I used to get upset and wonder why people got so annoyed about it, but now I understand why.

When I first joined WP I despised necrobumping. It soon became apparent that Alex supported it and I had to learn to deal with it or leave wrong planet. What still bothers me is when somebody necrobumps a thread discussing a problem somebody had years ago. Then a whole bunch of hyperfocused people not realizing it is a necrobumped thread give advice to a member whom has not been active in years and hopefully whose issue has been solved.

As mentioned above I feel the post that necrobumped this thread was on topic because it was an update, reporting how things actually turned out.

Thanks for bumping this s**t.

Oh, welcome to WP by the way, didn't realise you are a new member. Even so...I do hate this thread. :)

So WP has a taboo of "don't turn up old threads"?
Is this an unwritten rule? Or just for this thread?

To avoid misunderstandings, I want to play by the rules, if they exist at all.

Generally, most forums do have this unwritten rule against bumping old threads.

Some even makes it a written rule against it -- it's called necroposting.
It happens often with new members.

This particular forum doesn't have a written rule about bumping threads.

Usually everything else is a rule here, necrobumping old threads that died a long time ago (being so the 2016 US election has long passed and Trump ain't even president any more) should be a rule too.
