After about two nights away, I'm counting the hours until I can get back to my own "stuff." Since two nights is all that my autistic sons can handle well, that's all we do anymore, but I still find myself stressing out before we leave.

I've always felt this way. Now I live in a comfortable house with every accommodation, but I also felt this way in a one-room apartment when any hotel room would have more "amenities" than I had at home. I preferred being with my own 12 inch black and white TV and broken down box spirng and mattress to a comfortable hotel room with a color TV, because it was my stuff.

hehe, at first I read vaccinations, instead of vacations, and was very confused by your post...

But I get stressed by vacations too. Especially right before departure. Apparently, when I was little, my mom knew to expect a major meltdown the night before a vacation. Once I'm there, tho, I'm ok...but then again...i always go on the same vacations...beach in mid june, skiing in WY in midmarch. I'd probably be more stressed if I didn't always go to the same places, at the same times during the year.

Yes, I would much prefer to stay at home, I am off on holidays in 4 weeks and can't stop worrying. I like the familiarity and comfort of my home, can't get that anywhere else. I don't crave the sunshine, unlike my parents who can't get enough of it. I do like to visit different places of interest, so I can't have it both ways.

Actually, vaccinations don't bother me a bit.

We also go to the same places at the same times because it's what my older, autistic, son anticipates. My NT wife thinks that this sameness can become negative and tries to slowly vary things over the years. She does recognize that some sameness has to be in place, however.

We decided together that 18 was too old to being going to Sesame Place again, since most of the kids there are pre-schoolers. Probably true. :)

My 13 year old is also autistic and loweri functioning. We hide the suitcases from him and just put him in the car. When he sees that he is going to a place he likes (lots of swimming), then he is okay for a couple of days.

But, as soon as one little two day vacation is over, I start dreading the next, coming up in the middle of June. But, like you, once I'm there, I'm okay, but I still look forward to going home.

My idea of a vacation is...time off from work,at home, with my favorite things. When I go on vacation from work...they always ask, where I am going for vacation and I say..."anywhere but here".

That's me too. As a college professor, my spring semester just ended. So, except for some committee work, my wife is at work, the kids are in school, even through the summer in extended year programs, and I am at home, for the most part alone, for May, June, and July (the kids are home in August). I can read, write, catch up with the DVR, spend a lot more time on Wrong Planet (did you miss me?). Now, that's vacation.

I like being at home, in my environment, with my stuff the best, too.

Though I do like planning and going on vacation, but like you say, after a few days, it starts to get at me.

I had to go away for a weekend not too long ago that I didn't have much choice in to begin with and was pretty much FREAKING the whole time...

They asked what I was going to do when I got back home, and I said I didn't even know but just wanted to be in my own space!! !!

My parents took us on a 5 week road trip vacation when I was 17, and when we returned, I ran around the house in absolute ecstacy and KISSED ALL THE WALLS. My mom thought I'd lost my mind...

Yeah that about sums up my "vacations". I lock the door, unplug the phone and draw the blinds closed and relax in the silence.

I dont take vacations to get away from monotony or to have fun I take vacations away from having to deal with people.

I so look forward to the peace and quiet and lack of interference in pursuing my curiosities.

I definitely know where you're coming from. I can't even stay at my grandparents' for more than a night or two, and they only live ten or fifteen minutes away. XP

I just like to be home. I dunno.

I just started vacation today! Although I do sometimes like going other places, I do enjoy just being home. Very relaxing.

I hate vacations. One time my brother and my mum got pissed off at me for ruining their vacation because I refused to leave the hotel room. I hate being dragged around to so many new places in just a few days. To me that doesn't seem relaxing or fun. The only vacations I like are when I visit family and stay in their homes and the point of the vacation is to see them, not to see as many places as possible.

so how bad would it be if you had to get a vaccination for your vacation?

roflmao

by the way...i hate vacations...i'd rather have a timetabled set of routines to follow. weekends are long enough for me to be idle without a permanent dependable timetable to follow
