Learning joy from my son with autism

A great article from today's newspaper in Ottawa, where I live (click on link above). Really enjoyed it so I'd thought I'd share.

:D

That was an awesome story. :)

Quote:
It’s often said that kids with autism don’t have an imagination or, in the more nuanced books on the topic, lack “imaginary play.” I’ve never found this to be the case with any of the kids I’ve seen on the spectrum. In fact, I’d argue the reverse from my parenting perspective. I think kids on the spectrum often have such vivid powers of imagination that the “real world” has difficulty competing.

I can relate to this part very much, so true.

Thank you for sharing that story, eggheadjr! That was a wonderful read.

I too can relate to the part about the “real world” has difficulty competing.

This reminds me of a classmate who was the same way with busses and bus scheduals. Trains too. Philip was always fun to be around.

What a great story!

But if autistic can make things come out of our brain and happen, we've got trouble. I've got a thing for starships and explosions! lol.

OMG, I relate to this fully as a child. In fact, most family friends called our house when they needed bus information for the Buffalo NY area because I gave them better information than the NFTA help line.
