Have you even had financial disability benefits? Has anyone with nonverbal learning disorder(s), social communication disorder or other "not quite ASD" and not-PDD diagnosis and without psychotic or affective disorders (like schizophrenia and depression) even have "free" money because of his/her disability?

I live in Poland and I am now on social pension (about 640 PLN, which is well above 150 USD) since about a year. I had diagnoses of schizotypal disorder (F21), mixed obsessive-compulsive disorder (F42.2) and Asperger's syndrome (F84.5) when I (successfully) applied for it in Polish Social Insurance Institution.

I have never received any benefits. I have considered applying, but it is apparently a long process here and a lot of people end up not receiving anything. I don't know a lot about it, but I do know a couple people who do get benefits who said the process is awful.

I suppose than in USA getting money from disability benefits may be harder than in Poland, although USA is much richer than Poland. In Poland it is also not very easy, I read about Aspies who had moderate level of disability (which can give you care allowance (Polish: zasiłek pielęgnacyjny) if disability started before your 21st birthday, but it is only 153 PLN (about 40 USD)) and received denial of social pension because of lack total incapacity of work :(

I have been on my provincial disability plan since 2007 and I currently get $1302 CAD a month which is $985.50 in USD. I also get most of my meds free(have to pay for my sleep meds still), free healthcare like everyone else, and I also get free dental, taxis to medical appointments, and several other benefits

I had tried about 15 jobs, been on many many meds, 2 inpatient psych ward stays, and many hours of therapy before applying. I have anxiety disorders, depression, BPD and ongoing physical health problems which have been disabling the last decade. I struggle to just take care of myself and stay alive at this point since I am so physically sick everyday. There is no way I could hold a job.

Really wish I could say no to this poll. :(

Though I think I can hold a job, other people in my life recommended that I go on disability, at least while I'm in school.

No, I currently don't, although, my psychiatrist tells me that I'm perfectly qualified to.

However, I don't want to just stay at home... Personally, I'd like to do some volunteer work, especially if I can't find a steady job that fits me.

I've had disability benefits in the past, but it was for an illness I eventually had corrected. Not for ASD. Ever.
I believe I can work, in the right conditions, and I'm seeking to find those. I'm not happy to just receive benefits and never work again, even if I qualified - I haven't even been assessed for qualification. I don't want to.
I think that's one thing people don't understand about some autistics. Employ, ent may be extremely difficult, but some still want to do it.

I think that people like me should have financial disability benefits. Job market is very "hostile" place for someone like me. Job and earning money because of it can be a form of therapy and useful spending of time for these people, however.

I have them right now—my pseudo-job is artificially supported with them. I’m still trying to figure out what to do to survive without them as soon as possible.

I am classified as Significant Special Needs aka SSN. And I get whatever is covered by that along with what is covered by insurance. I know it gets complecated and my parents have had to use a lawyer on occasion to secure my benefits. Usually fighting the insurance company I believe.

Yes. I'm still on disability. That's why I can only work 10 hours a week.

I received a text message today which stated that I am eligible for PIP (personal independent payment) and will receive official confirmation in two weeks' time. In addition to PIP, I am also an ESA (employment support allowance) claimant, and I receive £228 every fortnight. Though I feel rather ashamed about claiming benefits, I do have moderate to severe - depending on my levels of stress and anxiety - communication difficulties.
