This short essay spoke volumes to me. Though it addresses the issues in the context of dyslexia, the ideas and feelings it expresses are just as valid for people on the spectrum (and with other kinds of challenges):

Good article. My mom has a book called "Overcoming Autism". Ugh.

I'd rather maximize my strengths than overcome my autism any day. I hate the word, overcome. I don't have anything to overcome. I'd rather celebrate than overcome and man do I ever celebrate. I have two shiny, blue party hats that I like to take turns wearing.
