I find that trying to listen to someone after waking up overloading. My GF insists on talking 100 mph/kmh from the moment she wakes up. My brain just can't cope with this intense activity after waking up. Is this an ASD trait or just "not a morning person" trait.

I am very much not a morning, to the point of having a significant amount of delayed sleep phase disorder. I feel the same way.

Perhaps if I kicked my caffeine addiction, and had a decent sleep pattern, I'd feel better, but I'm unsure.

Very much so. Not sure if it's an ASD specific thing though. I think most people have issues listening to people after they wake up in the morning as it takes a while for the mind to adjust. My partner blah blah blah's in the morning constantly when I'm dreary eyed and nursing my coffee and cornflakes...he just won't shut up when I'm trying to listen to the news :)

A lot of people, autistic or not, are not 'morning people'...

I find just about *everything* difficult when I wake up. That's probably because I don't have natural sleep anymore, and haven't for years I have to put myself out with meds every night and then take more in the morning. :(

I have difficulties listening to people all the time.

Could this be related to a sensory problem? Or am I just plain ignorant?

It feels like it could be a sensory issue for me in the morning , it also happens when I'm feeling really anxious - I think when I become anxious I become almost dissociated from RL and retreat into the safety of my head, so any interaction with a person is difficult as it brings me back to a place where I don't want to be.
