This is my situation. I used to be some kind of a smart bookworm who was eloquent and had a big vocabulary, but I have been pretending to be this vapid person who cares about nothing but pop culture and sex for a long time.
Here's a movie quote that describes my situation:"My parents wanted to move me into high school out of the sixth grade, but we decided to chuck the idea because I'd have trouble making friends, blah, blah, blah. Now blah, blah, blah is all I ever do. I use my grand IQ to decide what color lip gloss to wear in the morning and how to hit three keggers before curfew..."

Oops, sorry for my idiosyncratic writing style in the opening post. All I meant is that I'm not as intellectual as I used to be and that I care too much about shallow things.

Nothing wrong with lip gloss. It's not shallow.

That was a movie quote that I was using as an example of someone who has turned shallow. It's from Heathers.

Cool. Lip gloss was an obsession of mine when I was 13.....for the different flavors. Than elaborate hairstyles.

Just be you and all that beautiful culture in Puerto Rico.

I'm not from San Juan, Puerto Rico, but rather, a Filipino city which is also called San Juan.

You should go back into your profile and change your location to "Manilla", or to "the Philippines", because no one outside the Philippines knows your "San Juan".

Also there are probably zillions of places in Iberia,Latin America, and around the world named by Spanish, and Portuguese colonists after the more than one Saint Johns (ie there must be countless "San Juan" places in the World).

I pretend to be someone who's vapid, and I have turned vapid indeed.

Although San Juan, PR is the more widely known locale.

There's no shame in liking and enjoying what you like. Don't let the culture around you worm it's way into your mind so that it becomes self-shame. Shame will eat you alive.

Says someone who doesn't bat an eye at using the word 'idiosyncratic' in natural conveyance. :-p

The problem here is not that I've turned stupid, but rather that I have concentrated all my energy on silly things. Also, I'm still dealing with the aftermath of this situation:

These people used to tell me this every time I acted silly: "When it comes to being a slut, you're really good, but when it comes to academics, you're really bad!''

I think I know why these people were so angry with me: because I had nothing to contribute to group projects other than dirty jokes and wasted time. It was wrong of them to do what they did, but I understand why.

Maybe I'm not stupid, but it's just that I live in a country where people think of having a big English vocabulary as a bad thing, and so, that quality of mine is considered a useless one by some people. http://makingitfuninthephilippines.blog ... re-in.html
