Have you ever lived in a group home?

When I wanted to move out of my parents' place at 26 and my mom wouldn't let me, my mom would mention wanting to find a "camp" I could go to. I think she was referring to respite. But since I was so high functioning I didn't qualify. She also claimed she had a spot on a waiting list for a group home in Tennesee. She was LIVID when she found out I had contacted them. The only reason she thought it that group home was okay was because my brother has a neighbor who is the father who has a daughter in that home and he seems to think it's okay. His daughter is lower functioning than I am and um...he actually lives in Tennessee.

True, my brother lives there too but we NEVER got along. We were always at each others' throats as kids because he was a bully to me. I looked at the website of the place my mother was planning to send me too and all the testimonials were from parents and guardians of people who lived there...not the people themselves. This was a big red flag to me. Eventually, I just ran away and lived in a homeless shelter for a few days.
