Does anybody else here suffer from this? It's a specific type of social anxiety. It presents in three different degrees (slight, marked, extreme); at its extreme it involves pronounced paranoid sensitivity (all teasing is mocking), a marked sensitivity to offence (easily offended), and a resulting social withdrawal. I know I have this personally, possibly even to the extreme degree! Another odd component of this is perceiving all friendly smiles as derive smirks, 'freezing' when thinking you are being laughed at, controlling movements, and shame/anger after being laughed at.

It is caused by all the years of bullying, not being taken seriously, and being put down/laughed at in general. If anyone else here has it, you'll know how horrible it is to live with. I carefully avoid most people -- specifically groups -- because I think they will believe that there is something very ridiculous about me, as has happened countless times before. All the years worth of ridicule coupled with this disorder, has nearly pushed me to suicide on multiple occasions, although I've learned ways to deal with it over the years.

I have no fear of Italian ice cream! Lol!
But seriously...

I understand what you're talking about, and can relate. Certain situations can cause emotional twinges by reminding me of playground bullying. But I dont think that I have an actual full blown phobia.

Yes! I feel this quite often, though I'd rather not add another sh***y label to the collection :D

I remember being young feeling quite acute anxiety at my family laughing in another room, I would always assume it was at me. And in the last year we had builders around our house and I'd get anxiety from their laughter, even though I knew it wasn't about me, it still felt that way.

I recognize this from youth and earlier adulthood. Exactly.

Part of the issue is that they could really be doing that.

It used to cause me physical anxiety attacks, but I have rationalized and exposed myself to it, in small doses.
