Do you have a NT friend (or friends) would help/s you with interactions and looks out for you? I recently told a close friend about my suspected AS/ASD, and she has been wonderfully supportive to me. Bear in mind that only one other person knows about this IRL (my sister), and my parents don't want to accept that it might be a possibility.

My friend encourages me and is very accepting. She quietly explains things to me that I don't understand, and tries to help me calm down if I'm too nervous/excited. She also (very gently and unobtrusively) stops me if I stim in a non-socially acceptable way. Today she gave me a small toy suitable for stimming with (in a socially acceptable way!), which let me know that she accepts me how I am. :D

Do any of you have mentors? If so, what do they do for you?

Kinda hard to have a friend like that. When you have no friends in the first place. Me with social cues. It's just like everything flies out the window.

Only problem is, she was the year above me in school. She no longer goes to my school now. I still need to get used to that. I don't know just now quite how well I'll cope.
