Zoning out when engrossed with something

I wonder whether this has happened to anyone else. When my wife was alive and well she would sometimes say I'd ignored her . The truth was I had genuinely not heard her. This invariably happened if I was really into something online. It was as though everything else got blotted out.

I think that's pretty typical for most of us. And not only that, I'm often annoyed when someone finally breaks through. It's like everything I had built up in my mind shatters.

I too fail to hear people talking to me when I'm engrossed in something, and I also easily get annoyed by being brought out of the pleasant reverie. I'd rather keep thinking about it, and it's not like I can just easily pick it right up again once I'm out.

Occasionally I also experience that someone talks to me when I'm engrossed and I don't register it until way later and then reply and the person tells me that was long ago now.

I've had to be physically rocked before.

Lately I've even drifted of in class. Three times in this semester, in three 2 different classes, I tangeted off in my mind in mid sentence. Students then got my attention and had to ask me to finish my sentences. And it was always a spur from the topic at hand into research I am doing for 3D Printed Prosthesis.

So, yeah, I zone and the world is replaced completely by whatever is on my mind. A lot of times it happens at home during my looping sessions.
