Why trials of autism treatments have a placebo problem People with autism — and their family members — are susceptible to powerful placebo effects. Some researchers are using the problem to better understand this mystifying phenomenon.
Until the late 1990's it was believed there was no placebo effect due to less social ability. In addition to the usual placebo effect for autism reasearch there is the placebo effect by proxy theory caused by parents communicating hope.

“My autism is not a superpower. It also isn’t some kind of god-forsaken, endless fountain of suffering inflicted on my family. It’s just part of who I am as a person”. - Sara Luterman
