First, I just want to say that I'm sorry because my description to follow might be really uncomfortable to a lot of people.

Alright so, I actually don't seem to have that many sensory issues, but there is one that has been absolutely driving me crazy lately. It is the thought/sound/feeling of something, especially fingernails, scraping certain textures such as: canvas, corduroy, bed sheets, ridged bottle caps, tupperware-type plastic or yogurt containers, and even the fingerprint texture of my own hands & feet. They send painful shivers through my body and I hate it.

I'm wondering if there are any toys or such that would help me. Like something smooth that is the opposite of those bad textures that I could run my fingernails over to sort of calm them down? My ipod helps a little, with its cold glass and matte metal and the little shiny apple, but I don't think I should really be scratching that too much. Also I've been considering one of those polished stones that have an indent for your thumb, but I don't know. Any ideas? They will be much appreciated.

Hold something that is vibrating. For example a massager or a rough finger spinner.
For next a few minutes everything will feel very smooth.
Just an idea.

Most of the fidget spinners I've tried are smooth. What about something non-conventional you can stroke like a plastic bottle or a Frisbee?

What about something metal? How about these stress balls: https://www.amazon.com/Baoding-Chinese- ... B000P8Q03I

I know that you can't really scratch something that is in the shape of a ball, but they are meant to be soothing.

My favorite object to hold and rub is a chrome Zippo cigarette lighter. I don't smoke and I don't put any fuel in it, but it's perfectly the size of my hand, and it's so smooth, and since it's metal it warms up in my hand. If I feel like fidgeting I open and close the lid, which has a satisfying click. Or I flick the wheel and make sparks.

I have a glass paperweight that I sometimes stroke. I've considered getting some of those decorative glass rocks to just feel and maybe drop a few gently into the others to hear the little clacking noise and feel them tumbling through my hand. I'd have no idea how to decorate with those things when they aren't in use though.

I have a preference for tumbled or polished gemstones. Magnetic hematite can be particularly useful as a smooth stim toy.

Look up something called Cyber Gel Ball. There are variations and brands of these Stress Squeeze Balls. They're intended more for squeezing, but they have a fairly smooth spandex cover. Just cut off the annoying tag.

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep 'em coming! I actually have baoding balls, polished stones, and one of those stress balls, so maybe I'll try those first.

I love the soft smooth feel of certain plasticy objects. The first one I can think of is those brightly coloured cooking spoons, I think they're silicon. My fidget cube has a soft smooth indent on one side like it, and I've also felt it on certain pens and other things.
I bought a chewigem necklace because I thought it would be nice and smooth to rub, but it my fingers didn't glide on it.
I like polished stones too.
