Anybody else have emotional reactions to certain noises?

For me.... certain noises such as coughing, sneezing and snoring make me incredibly angry (particularly snoring). Especially when the noises are repetitive and persistent. They feel "intrusive" to my personal hearing space.

I have a few, but the 2 most extreme are:

1. The sound of broom bristles on concrete (I can't deal with this at all)

2. Certain sounds a person makes when they move saliva around in their mouth. Quite loud sort of swilling noises. Do. Not. Want.

The sound of a spoon stirring in a teacup or mug as it goes tink-tink-tink makes me angry.

My dad does it dozens of times a day. The repetitive nature of it and how twee it sounds is what rises my hackles.

Barking dogs. :(
Big dogs it's like a pressure in my head, small dogs it's a cutting sharpness. It's so annoying either way.

Motorcycles and low, rising sounds scare me. Fibers rubbing together (like cotton on cotton) creep me out and make me really uncomfortable, even irritable.

Some sounds are very pleasing, though. Ex- Windchimes, bells, clinking of fingernails on cups, counters, etc.

I also find that I become excessively angered by coughing and sneezing, though not really by snoring. I am also angered by people sniffing, blowing their noses, and retching. I am quite sure that the feeling aroused in me is anger. It is certainly not a mere disgust. I also suspect that this is an instinctive self-preservation reaction intended to keep me from becoming sick, because all these sounds are associated with illness. This instinct (if instinct it is) seems to be overly strong in me compared to other people, as I find myself inexplicably angry and hateful towards the people who make the noises. It worries me sometimes, because I can temporarily loath the person that I love most just because they make those sounds.

Fabric being scratched. Like someone scratching an itch through a garment, especially synthetic fabric. It gives the heebie-jeebies. Same with a shovel or rake scraping pavement.

The sound of vacuum cleaners and leaf blowers cause anxiety and irritability.

The sound of sirens like on an ambulance are like a knife going into my brain.

Snoring, especially if the person sounds as if he is choking
People who hack up their spit/phlegm
Loud cars and motorcycles
People who call me "honey" and "dear" in a patronizing voice
People who talk to me when they are standing behind me. That makes me jump out of my skin!
Electronic beeping music, often played during tennis matches

The sound of an ice lolly being chomped has always made me grimace.

Listening to other people kissing or eating makes me angry, because it sounds so disgusting. Especially the kissing.

On the massive multi player online game I play, there's a kissing emote sound effect and I hate that sound so much when players use it.

I don't have misophonia, 'just' a combination of hypersensitivity and recruitment.

Oh, yes-kissing! I heard it referred to as "sucking face," and some people sound like they're slurping the face right off someone else!

Speaking of slurping, people who purposely slurp their soup annoy me to no end.

Loud chewing, often combined with open mouth chewing, is disgusting in the extreme.

Shrieking female tennis players are one reason most of the WTA turns me off. Male tennis players grunting doesn't bother me as much, as long as they do it with authority. I prefer silence (Federer and, for the most part, Denis Istomin), but what really annoys me is when a man wheezes as if he's in the throes of death-Djokovic is infamous for this.

In a nutshell, people who go around their daily lives making as much noise as possible-drives me nuts. Do your thing and be quiet about it.

Cell phones that go off indoors. Put it on vibrate, already!

I have misophonia but hearing chewing or breathing does not bother me. What does bother me is hearing people sneeze, cough and clear their throat. I know someone who sneezes about 20 or more times in a row or more (with about 5 seconds inbetween each sneeze). It can go on for ages. Sometimes I have to leave the room because I find it so annoying.
Some people's coughs annoy me too, especially people on the bus with a loud cough. I have to keep myself from screaming at them.
Oh, and farts that sound like ducks quacking really annoys me. Or farts that go like "bowaaat". Ugh!! ! Mine don't sound like that.

Misophonia is horrible because people call you an inconsiderate hypocrite for getting so worked up over noises that are natural bodily functions what even you do yourself.

I agree. It's a pain. I've got a very paranoid, delicate, quiet way of eating now because of precisely this. Way before I had any suspicion of Asperger's and when I still lived with my family, one of my main disturbing and awkward traits was that I eventually couldn't eat in the same room as other people. I have the classic eating sound aversion. The sounds of other people chewing and even of their cutlery seem to just get louder and louder til they're roaring and fill me with disgust. Just like FandomConnection said, it bothers me because I temporarily feel a kind of real hatred for the person. It's irrational - I also have irrational, hateful reactions to the way people even hold their cutlery.

People picking or, to a lesser extent, clipping their nails is another huge problem to me. Sneezing gives me no reaction unless the person is being deliberately loud.

Snoring is so difficult for me to deal with, especially those snores that end on a high pitched whistle. Thoughts of murder actually go through my head during these times. Maybe i'm just a psychopath. :)
