The buzzing whine of the polisher right in your ear.... stranger's fingers in your mouth.... sharp tools poking holes in your gums.... that mirror chasing your tongue around so it can pin it down....

Also that panicky "I might choke" feeling when you can't close your mouth because there's sharp instruments and nasty flavored toothpaste in there for too long. :P

Oh yeah, I absolutely hate going to the dentist. There's the feel of the sloppy dentist's scraper poking my sensitive gums, the blindingly bright overhead light (They usually give me sunglasses to mitigate this), the buzzing polisher, and the awful fluoride taste. That's pain in 4 of the 5 senses. I used to have meltdowns often when going to the dentist. Now, I can handle it a bit better, but it's still miserable.

Exactly. It's so bad for me I need to be partially sedated even before leaving for the dentist and anesthetized once I'm in the chair. I always wake up with a headache and a sore mouth :(

Yes. I haven't been to the dentist in 20 years or so. I dread the day I have no choice but to find one.

I hate biting down on those "bite plates" they use when X-raying your mouth. They about made me vomit!

I hate the curved device they use to scrape your teeth. It bears an uncanny resemblance to an Uzbek scimitar and is every bit as terrorizing!

I hate the saliva sucker. That just about makes me gag, too.

I hate having my tongue held.

Oddly enough, I really like the people at the dentist's office I go to. They are very nice and treat me very well. The dentist I had before my present one treated me as if were absolutely stupid and divulged some information that should have been kept private. That made the experience absolutely wretched.

My least favorite thing is the scraper. It hurts my teeth and my ears.

Im weird

Winners? Hate it, shut down immediantly, Mall? Too much going on, shut down. Clubs? Cant stand them.

Dentist? Meh,,,

Ive been going to the dentist for fillings since i was two. My sensory sensitivity was worse but i never had a problem going to the dentist. I definately hate the drill and the light though.

The worst part for me is that awful bright light that they shine right above you...obviously because the dentist/hygienist has to be able to see into your mouth, but ugh! My eyes literally cannot take it and I have to wear shades whenever I go.

I don't bother with dentist anymore... I think the ones I been to, done more damage then good. Invest in a good brush, like SonicCare and use it twice a day.

Agreed. It's a nightmare. I have purposely played sick just to avoid dentist appointments.

The scraping at the teeth is like nails across a chalkboard. Sensory hell. I am going to coat my mouth in benzocaine before my next dentist appointment next month and load up on clonazepam. My teeth have become more sensitive so each time is worse than the last.

The worst for me was pain in my gums from getting braces & pain from checking my gums for gingivitis.

They are after me to get my wisdom teeth out. I really don't like the idea of surgery, anesthesia and having to take time off work and miss activities.

I hate the taste of the metal instruments, the inevitable panic attack after being numbed, the lecture of what you are not doing and then wondering if they are just trying to screw you out of more money. Why are dentist's separate from doctors? It also seems like it is not an accepted form of medicine, like holistic treatment or chiropractors. Then also the smells of the office, always smells weird like BO but not quite.

Fortunately I have a dental hygienist that is really kind and accommodating. She gives me deeply tinted safety glasses to wear while in the chair - they seem to help quite a bit.

I do dread having to go to the dentist and try not to think about it.
