For clarification, I have ASD and Tourettes, I find it hard to distinguish the difference sometimes.
As of late, I have had less hand fluttering and a lot more arm twisting, like I twist my arms constantly, to the point where it hurts. It's gotten to a stage where it has replaced my arm tics (basically me stretching them as long aa I can in front of me).
It's frustrating not only because of this, but I can't tell whether this is a stim or not. Does anyone else do this?

I can't say as I quite relate. But I think doing things with arms and hands is pretty typical. I tend to hold my arms bent with my fists pressed against my chest. Sometimes I contract my arms to the point where it hurts.

I have Tourette's. I agree: sometimes, it is very hard to distinguish a stim from a tic.

I have both tics and stims involving my arms. I feel like stims are easier to control than tics are. For me, twisting my arm can be a tic or a stim. When it's a tic, even if I want to stop, I have to do it eventually, and it can drive me crazy. When it's a stim, it feels more pleasureable.

Also, my arm sometimes start twitching uncontrollably when I try to hold back an arm tic. The twitching is not too noticeable to other people, but it's there. The only way to stop twitching is to do the tic. I never get uncontrollable twitching with stims.

There is an old thread discussing tics vs stims here: http://wrongplanet.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=3669143
