So today I had something upsetting happen. I think I had a meltdown but at the same time I could "suck it in" and not act on it when other people were around. When I was alone I couldn't keep it in and I was growling/squeaking, flapping/clapping and hitting myself, but I could keep it together when I didn't want people to see me act like this. Sound familiar to anyone or am I just weird?

Sounds like you are autistic but over the years figured out how to hold it in, in public.

I have been married for ten years now. I break down unless he consoles me. He is my rock. Without him I will turn into a ball of emotions.

He's got Jack Johnson playing to ease my nerves. He knows me.

I'd call that touch and go meltdown. Growling/squeaking, flapping/clapping and hitting self, is typical autistic behavior when upset. I do the same.

My experience of meltdowns have sort of been all or nothing. Either I'm an uncontrollable wreck or I'm fine. I didn't know if something like this counted or if it was something else entirely.

But I feel comforted by people responding in the affirmative. Thank you.
