There are a few Asperger’s things that I don’t have at all, and I’m wondering if I’m the only one. One of them sort of involves a “mature” subject, so I’m going to post a link to another thread that I’ll stick in the adult’s only section. I’d rather have them in the same thread, but I’m not sure if it would be okay to post about the second thing in this forum.

Okay, first-food.

I’ve read that a lot of people with AS will do things like only eat a single food for a long time, or things like that. But I’d get sick of doing that. I like variety, and while I’m picker than some people, I think the number of foods I eat is well within the normal range. I’m sure there are completely NT people with pickier diets.

Also I’ve read that a lot of people keep their foods totally separate. I’m not sure…would this mean people with AS wouldn’t like pizza or casseroles? Because I’ve always loved both of those (at least casseroles like my mom used to make, and stuffing, and things like that). The only extent that I separate food is I am a little weird about wanting some things on separate plates/bowls…but I’m not nearly as bad about that as I was. I also tend to eat things in the reverse order of how much I like them (ie eat all or most of the thing I like least, then move on to the next thing). But I do that with everything. I watch shows off of my Tivo in reverse order of how much I like them, pick the next game to play from my backlog in reverse order, etc.

So does EVERYONE with AS have food issues, or are others like me?

Next topic, follow me to that adults forum, if you’re an adult :) (I don’t plan to be graphic or anything, but just to be on the safe side I’ll post that there.)

I eat different kinds of food. I eat something different every morning. I used to eat the same foods everytime I went to places. I like trying different food.

I have food fads. I will stick to a set few things for a period of months, although I am not as limited as some.
For example, I went through a period of my dinner being seafood and vegetables for months.
I have been getting the same diet chocolate mousses for at least 4 months. I have to have them here.
Now it is one of 2 frozen fish meals for dinner.
I always have the same fruits too generally and the same vegetables.
I suppose I am quite limited. You can guarantee my shopping basket will have pretty much the same items from one day to the next lol.

I don't eat exactly the same continuously, but I do only have a few different meals . At uni, there are only 3 different meals I regularly make in the evenings, though that is partly due to a cooking ability factor. When I was younger, I did leave certain things to last, but don't do that as much now.

IIRC, the ones you have listed aren't even mentioned in the DSM.

My father does the shopping and the cooking; he is quite limited as for food choice and I would like more variety from him, but I do have my favourites. Since I was a child I really liked pear juice. I have drunk pear juice every day for more than ten years. I stopped drinking it as an experiment three years ago, now I started drinking it again.

I separate only certain foods, like meat from vegetables, because their tastes don't harmonize together. I also like to eat the crust of breaded meat before and then the meat (I love breaded meat).

I think I did this, but now I eat food in the order it is served.

I mean, I've certainly gone through periods of eating the same things over and over, but the variety of food that I eat is probably within the "normal" range, although not by much. I do eat all of one food at a time, almost always, and I don't really like different foods touching on the plate, never have for some reason. I also sometimes request new forks - for instance, who wants to eat some baked beans with a fork that just had salad dressing all over it? Not me. Also, I tend to go through phases of different foods... I will eat at a particular restaurant or eat a particular thing for breakfast every day/almost every day for a while, and then all of a sudden I hate it and I move on to something new.

(of course I am still listed as "don't know whether I have it or not")...but I do not have any issues with food, apart from wanting to eat too much of it...

When I am living on my own I am generally on a low budget, and then might be inclined to eat the same foods over and over again..but that is because the foods are cheap...

And when i was younger I was a vegetarian for 10 years, and sorta ate the same foods over and over because I had a restricted diet.

I may lack a little imagination when it comes to food, but for the most part, i think I like a pretty diverse array of things and don't mind getting them mixed up.

If there is a particular dish I like, then I am prone to always wanting to have it prepared the same way...like black bean nachos with lettuce and tomatoes (i love nachos)..but might get upset if there is no lettuce and tomato
Or an Everything Bagle with salmon, cream cheese, capers, tomato slices and black pepper...I might get upset if they don't have "Everything" bagles...

I always put chips in my sandwiches because i like all things to be a little crunchy...

But I know "NTs" who are alot more picky than me.

I'd say my eating habits fall within the normal range. A few quirks, but there are plenty of others I have met who are worse than me.

i find i eat the same things daily. for years one end sometimes. i had eggs for breakfast 1998-2000, then oatmeal 2000-2003, then eggs again and i'm still there, 4 years with eggs for breakfast. if i eat breakfast.
and lunch is much the same, salad, or sandwhich or smoothie, but i have to more flexible, being at work or school. but always one of those things.
dinner i have less control over, if i am alone, when i lived alone, i would make spaghetti or something and ate it for dinner every night until it is gone. then move on to something else. but when going out for dinner with friends or living with someone makes it harder since you have others to consider.
i used to think i did this because food is only really fuel and i just need to keep going. but lately i like to cook more and i am pretty good at it. my mom and dad are very good cooks and i could not help but pick it up. so i am enjoying different dinners lately.
i am much rigid alone.

I eat almost the same food everyday. When I eat out, I have specific meals I always order in each restaurant or fast food place. In addition, I get periods where I'll constantly eat the same food again and again, ussually for several months.

If left to myself I probably would eat the same every day with some variation but that doesn't always go over well with the others in the family. As for keeping foods from touching and the pizza casserole thing they were made to be eaten that way where as my mash potatoes and salad were not. I go as far as having the divided plates so stuff doesn't mix.

I go on "food kicks"...I'll only want certain things, and will eat the same thing for weeks or a month...then I get sick of that and crave something else.

Casseroles and pizza don't bother me...but if anyone mixes my peas with my mashed potatoes... :D

I eat weird too I guess...I can have three different things on a plate, I can't take bites of all three...it's like one thing at a time until I'm done with it, then I can move to the next item.

I was a picky eater as a kid, but now I eat a large variety of foods. I have certain favorite "comfort foods" of my heritage (German and Italian), but I eat a good variety of food. I eat quite a lot of food too. I have to do more exercise, in addition to the walking I do at work.

I've occasionally been teased at work about how I will bring the same thing for lunch for weeks at a time: Sandwich, hard-boiled egg, small container of yogurt, can of pop.

I tend to eat clockwise around my plate if I have more than one food. But I will leave little areas where foods touched or ran together-even if nothing got on it, and I think it *might have* I will leave it and not eat it. As far as pizza and things like that, I have absolutely no problem eating them-those foods are supposed to go together, however I will only eat 2 types of pizza (either pepperoni and black olive or just plain pepperoni), and will only eat it if ordered from one of three specific pizza places around here-I won't eat it otherwise because it tastes funny to me, or they aren't careful at keeping ingredients separated so I wind up with onions on my pizza-things like that. I'll eat pastas and stuff like that too, and dip my garlic bread into the sauce-but only red sauce, and if the sauce touches the bread before I'm ready to eat it, I'll tear off the portion that the sauce touched because it's soggy by then, lol.

I probably only eat 7-8 different things (maybe a couple more, not positive), but I alternate them. No specific order of making them, but the only food choices for dinner are off of that list for the most part.

I get food fads too,and really "need" things prepared in certain ways, though I can tolerate most things if I need to.I've always been extremely fussy about how meat is prepared, and have gone without for long periods.I don't think that's very weird. In general,I do love food and eating.
