” Highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus “.

I don't think I qualify for this but an online acquaintance who is dxed with ASD says my interest in psychology/psychiatry and as an offshot autism/NVLD may well fit under "unusual intensity".
Whilst I have a few other interests ie genealogy and politics they are very much secondary to that.
Most of my time is spent either looking for and posting mental health links or looking at or posting on MH forums.

I would agree that you do, based on what I've seen of you on the forum.

And I say that in the nicest way - I'm the same!

I also am very interested in psychology and psychiatry. In fact, if I ever go back to school, I want to major in psychology. Anything to do with the brain fascinates me. To me, the brain is the most fascinating organ in the human body. Don't you think? I have other interests, too, like hard rock/heavy metal music, horror movies and cryptogram puzzles. I'm also a big fan of YouTube. You can watch ANYTHING on there. Once I'm focused on something I'm interested in, it's hard to get me away from it, yet it's easy to startle me. Believe me, you don't want me startled. I might lash out on you. That's how much I hate being startled. It also really bothers me if I'm interrupted from something I'm focused on. But I eventually get over it.

Have you ever got so into something on the internet that you've 'zoned out'? . My late wife said she would sometimes talk to me and I didn't answer. It was because I hadn't heard her . I am not deaf so it wasn't due to that.

"Obsessions" have always been my strongest autistic trait.

I definitely have strong interests. My longest, most abiding interest throughout my lifetime has been animals, especially cats. I am also very interested in tennis, world history and geography, literature and medical topics. I was always interested in something and researched it thoroughly, building up a large body of stored knowledge.

psychology/psychiatry is a very interesting subject but I have deliberatly stayed away from it ( or just dipped my toe in ) because I know I would just lose myself in it as it's such a broad subject. I seem to know what type of interests will suck me in and try not to research it - sometimes it's impossible though.

I am guilty of this and it usually causes some tension. My GF is the same but she has the excuse of hearing dificulties.
