Normally, I am very tense physically, as I inhibit most stimming for some reason. I guess when I was relaxed or delighted enough while standing in church, I began to stim a bunch without realization. It was nice to be physically relaxed.
Can you give any ideas on how to relax more in general- at home?

Why do you stim? Do you feel you have to?

You might think I'm being annoyingly obvious, but just bring as many of the things that comfort you into your environment as possible/practical.

If you like quiet, close doors, windows... if you have a loud computer, move it into a closet or change the fans.
If you have a favorite show, make some time to watch it if possible.

I've heard people say that just the act of smiling makes you feel happier even if you didn't feel like it before. Likewise if you make some time to intentionally stim (instead of suppressing), I think you'll feel more calm/relaxed overall too.

To me stimming is not just an expression of positive feelings, but a creator of them too.

I don't put much thought into stimming. Most of the time it just happens on it's own. Sometimes when my stimming starts to get a little out of control so to speak someone in the family will tell me to relax in a nice way and put their hand on my shoulder which calms me down. When I am someplace public like school, I use fidget toys to help keep me from stimming too much.

Have you thought about what it is about church that makes you so relaxed? That might give you some clues as to how to relax yourself at other times. You might also want to think about why you are often tense and don't stim - have people berated or disciplined you for stimming in the past? Working through the reasons for your physical states can help you to gain more control over them.
Good luck! :D

Running around in circles/pacing back in forth has always helped me. But I cannot discern if it's a reaction to understimulation or overstimulation.
