My own sensory issues got worse few years back as a result of stress. I had always had mild-very mild sensory integration dysfunction, but it wasn't until then that they became really bad. Each year as stress at school/socially/in general increases for me, I tend to find that they become worse, and can ocasionally go back to a "normal" level of sensitivity on some days. One hallmark of every neurological dysfunction (in mine and your girlfriend's case- Asperger's Syndrome) is inconsistency. That means that while you won't necessarily go from high functioning to severely autistic, everything can fluctuate and you may have some days with minimal to no problems, while other days pose extreme challenges. There are a lot of possibilities for why your girlfriend's auditory sensitivities may have worsened, but I would ask in particular if she notices that she is more stressed lately, because stress can have a substantial impact on pretty much every aspect of the condition. Wishing you the best.
