Sometimes when people have stared at me in the past,
I would put on a fake smile, stare back, and wave "hello."
If they then made a mean face, I imitated them.
Usually, the other person will look away at that point.

Am I the most polite person in the world?
Well, no.
But there are times when I will stand up for myself.

And Beware: This sort of mischievousness can get you into trouble.

It's because you're looking to see who's looking at you. Sort of a vicious circle kind of thing. Look at your shoes.
Really. My aunt had this problem and cured it by ignoring everybody. It's worth a try.

My sister-in-law is African-American and my brother is white. They live in a town that is pretty racist and they always get stares. My sister-in-law just waves at them like she knows them and they stop.

People do this all the time to me to, I can barely recall a single occasion in my whole life where this hasn't happened after I've went out. Probably has something to do with my internal monologue. Awkward behavior is another major cause of why you may be stared at. I've noticed walking quickly though the crowds, walking with a second person, and also paying attention to your surroundings, minimizes the stares. Sunglasses may also help now that it's summer.

I get stared at all the time because I look and act weird. I don't like it, but I know why it happens and that there's nothing I can do about it.

You don't always have to be looking at people to know if they are looking at you or not. I hate when people say "you must be looking at them if you know they're looking at you so much", also I can SENSE when someone is staring too.

I consciously avoid eye contact with strangers, and try to look distracted (looking in shop windows, etc) and I walk up straight to look more confident, but I still see people looking as I pass.

I have convinced myself that I look more freakier than the most horrifying deformed (probably photoshopped) thing you've ever seen on the internet, so that makes everybody look at me thinking "Jesus wept, who let that weirdo out of the looney bin! Oh my God she is the weirdest freak to ever walk this planet". No matter how NT I act or how trendy I dress and how well I blend in, I still think that everybody literally thinks I'm a freak with 3 heads and 8 claw-like arms flailing about manically. Either that, or I glow very brightly, like a florescent green that catches people's eyes.
