There's this one girl at my school who kept asking me questions like, "Why do you do that?" "Why do you say shiny all of the time?", and "Why do you like that crap?" She says that she's my friend, but I don't really like people like her.

Yes, when I am asked too many questions, I sometimes get overwhelmed and annoyed.

I just don't see why people do it, I mean why do they do it? Why would my reasons for doing it be any different from theirs or anyone elses?

This person at work always asks me why I do stuff, and the answer to these is "because I felt like it": because that's why I did it. And it's the general answer anyone would get from getting asked those particular questions.

This was the same person that called me weird and made me cry.

It depends on how they ask it for me - I think part of my job being high functioning is to explain to people how autistics percieve the world - so when people who know I'm autistic say 'what is it about your tangle toy that you like so much?' or 'why did you say that?' I think that is ok - but I got really irritated with this check out lady at the grocery store who looked at my tangle toy and said 'What is THAT?' and then when I told her how neat it felt she gave me this look - made me want to jump at her and scream!

I agree. It seems like people sometimes look at me and they see a thread that they just have to pull, especially after they are around me for a while.
I think they know we are different somehow, but can't put their finger on it. They spend their lives trying to fit in, and can't understand why someone would do something that is to them so obviously not "normal."

It's funny you should mention this, I'll be interested to hear if a lot of people get asked these sort of pointless questions. Maybe it should be a "symptom"

I just remembered, the other day I was out painting on the side of the road, with an easel..... and a paintbrush in my hand, and this hick drove up and asked me, "what are you Doing?"

I will assume I am not the culprit.
I have reading the evolution of this
particular topic with keen interest.

Hmmmmm? I am just being
pre-cautious :? :?:

It is sooo interesting that you posted this!! ! My husband and his whole family act like any question is offensive, even if it's just small talk or if it's a critical question that really needs to be asked. I have even asked him what he had against questions, and he said, "there you go with another question!"

My parents ask me too many questions. I get irritated whenever they do that. It's their way to make me speak and get out of my inner world, but it doesn't work very well. I shout and grumble and they have to stop questionning me. It's not very nice of me, though.

Actually, I really enjoy being asked questions if they are regarding myself (one of my favorite topics to study, lol) or a favorite subject of mine. At least I know then (I think) that the person is interested and I haven't crossed that pendantry line.

You guys sound like you all just need to relax and go with the flow. I don't see what the big problem with questions is. Myself, I'm like neutral about everything, I have a cone of neutrality that surrounds everyone else's interactions with me. If you don't understand it, stay neutral. "What's that for? Nothing much." or "What're you doing? Nothing much." Having a neutral answer solves so many problems, its not funny.

A appology to Danlo and Auttie34 wrote:

I appologize if in anyway my fiestiness
of the past few days has offended you.

Changes in my life bring out the worse in
me, and the questioning that I so thoroughly
enjoy, be it directed at me or someone
else was given fiesty responses.

Please, my fellow HFA'rs, do question me
as I will you. I am deeply sorry that
I may have offended either of you.

Sincerely,

You should know, lol, that one of my pet hates is when people apologize. Apologies are one of the few things that aggravate me :)
