No, that is not acceptable. He should not be doing that at this time. That would piss me off as well, scrulie.
Get him ASBOed!

Well, I guess if he's got to drill, he's got to drill. Do you know what he's doing it for? It might be better for him to get it all done at one time, so he's not driving you crazy for days.

I would hope he knocks off soon though- after all, for all he knows you might be going to bed soon. It would have been more polite to do it in the afternoon.

We have gardeners with lawnmowers and leafblowers to make a racket at my house.

This one dorm I was in during college, there was a path right outside my window that the snowplows would always clear at five in the morning. They would go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... it used to keep me awake and drive me nuts!

Then when I was studying abroad in Spain, there were people tearing up the sidewalk outside my building with jackhammers for hours on end every day. At least there I was on the second floor though, not the ground.

the thing is he has been driving me crazy for days!! ! Weeks, in fact!! He keeps drilling the same bloody bit!!
Yesterday they took a wall down which was all-day noise, which I was reasonably chill about and they shut up by the evening. Today he's just taking the p*** I'm afraid! They're building an extension. Cool. But why not do it when there's a chance people are out, rather than when u know they are at home trying to realaxxx? Buking fastard :x  (I am still laughing - just!)

Yeah, he should really be doing it earlier in the day. That is pretty rude. Did he at least come by to apologize to you for the noise? I'm sure the people in the neighborhood with children don't appreciate it either, since they probably *would* be going to bed before nine.

Maybe just ask him if he could by any chance start earlier and stop earlier. He can't do much to control the noise for you, but he can at least stop it at a reasonable time so that you can wind down at night.

Well he's stopped it now. I'm not very assertive aobut these things. I think perhaps it's takinglonger than he'd anticipated and is doing it desperately at all hours!

Don't throw a buket of water at his front door so some of it will leak through the edges onto the floor on the enterance to his house....I have heard apparently people don't like it being done to them.

Just to clear up: an ASBO is an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASBO#_note-it-asbos), a civil order that is basically used to prevent people from doing things like spitting, swearing, fighting, stuff like that. They aren't always very effective though in my view.
