how's your handwriting?

mine's atrocious and has been all my life, I can barely read it myself to be honest, especially if it's something I wrote a while ago.

This is how bad it is: a job I was in a couple of years ago involved writing up case notes about clients I worked with and everybody got really annoyed with me cos they couldn't read what I wrote and eventually my manager put it on my supervision that I had to write more legibly. I had to write in upper case but even then it wasn't much better. It's not that I rush or anything, I just can't do it, in fact I find it really stressful and unpleasant to have to write much by hand.

I could take half an hour to write a sentence and it would still look crap.

Mine used to be ok, but it's developed into a scrawl. I got some RSI from office jobs, and I think it's gotten worse since then. If I put some effort in, it's better, but usually I don't.

My handwriting used to be horrible when I was a kid. I've gotten better at it, but it's still not that great. I can draw a lot better than I can write.

My dad's handwriting is worse than mine ever was. On the calendar, he wrote breakfast meeting, but it looked like it said bathroom meeting.

I write better in cursive! When I take my time, I'm not that bad. But I prefer to write fast. What's weird is, when I use a fine point pen and write fast it comes out looking like cursive, and I 'll be using print. It looks better, so I might just switch to cursive or use fine point pens only.

I don't have very good writing. People have a lot of problems reading my writing. It has always been like that.

The only people that can read my handwriting is my mom, and a friend who is schizophrenic (I know that's spelt wrong).

I’ve always had problems writing. When I hold a pen in a relaxed manner, my hand shakes slightly and I feel I have little control over the pen. The writing in that case, is awful. So I end up gripping the pen tightly to get more control, but then my hand develops cramps. I can only write a short sentence or two before I must put down the pen and shake my hand to relieve the cramping.

When I have to write I print only and have completely forgotten how to write in cursive. I write very slowly as well, so in the past I’ve had problems taking notes. I really have to concentrate on what I am writing or it will look terrible and the longer I write, the more unintelligible my writing becomes.

I can't write with cursive lettering, I can only print, even then it's very messy. I also have an inability to write letters that are anything more than miniscule . My mom is the only one who can consistently read my writing.

My hand also cramps up after writng.

mine's illegible, even to me. however, it does look very pretty, a bit like illuminated script, so i've been told. an enlightened deputy head in my primary school me it's cos i'm impatient, and my brain works faster than my hand. sounds feasible. i always print at school (nightmare), but it means i LOATHE writing anything by hand.

This is exactly what I'm talking about too synchro: if I relax my hand and forearm then there's not enough grip to form letters but if I hold more tightly then I get cramp and the writing is still bad anyway.

me too TB: when I was art school for a while a few years ago they were really surprised cos most people when they start to draw are too controlled and have to loosen up but my natural drawing style is very free and expressive and I had to focus in more on detail.

Funny about the writing thing though cos when I once worked in a cafe I was the one who wrote the best blackboard for the menu, customers used to comment on how good it looked ! - with a piece of chalk on a blackboard I can write beautifully but with a pen it's a disaster.

It's part of the asperger's deal - 'fine motor skills' I think they call it, which is I why I guess I'm better with a piece of chalk.

Civet, like me your print is miserable (though not as bad as mine). But your cursive is perfectly fine, I had no trouble reading it.

It took me atleast a minute or more to write the cursive. I can't do it any faster than that.

If I slowed down, I can make my print a bit more readable, but it's still not pretty.

Hmm... Strangely, I can read the upper part ("printing") of Civet's handwritting easily, while the bottom (cursive) is much more difficult. I was writing the similar way to Civet's "printing" when I was a young kid, but the constant practice with cursive at school finally had an effect, and now I join some letters, but not all. Nowadays my handwriting is slow, uneven, and causes me pain, so I generally avoid scribbling anything more than a shopping list. It was better in school anc college years. Below is a sample:
