So I purchased this toy bus from Ebay. I already have another one, but I purchased it anyway. It was manufactured by Kenner in 1995 and it was sold for a limited time. It isn't on Ebay very often. The toy comes with decals to put on the windows and doors of the bus. I completely ruined one of the decals. I didn't put it on right at first so I tried to adjust it. I made it worse. I ended up making a crease in the decal and it has a little tear. I had to send the bus to a decal repair company so I am hoping they will make me a decal exactly like the one I ruined. Whenever these buses are sold on Ebay used, all of the decals are on perfectly. I also struggled putting on the decals on my other bus. I am wondering if my struggling with the decals has something to do with my poor motor skills. I wish the manufacturer of the toy had made the toy so that the decals were already on it. I keep ruining these toy buses because it is hard for me to get the decals on right. I feel like I don't even deserve this toy because I've ruined so many of them.

I struggle with doing some kinds of fine work, especially artistic things. Your difficulties may be due to a lack of fine motor skills, but it's hard to know. Many NT people also have trouble with such things, just because the don't have a 'good eye' for things like that. Is there anybody you can ask to help you put the decals on your toy buses? This might be a better option that struggling and 'ruining' more buses.

Maybe you could apply the decals using a pair of tweezers? They can help you be more precise in placing them.

Some people with autism also have developmental coordination disorder.

Yes, I have always struggled with fine motor skills. People with Asperger's and autism spectrum disorder are prone to having trouble with fine motor skills. In fact, I was diagnosed with motor skills problems--specifically a very mild form of cerebral palsy--before I was informally diagnosed with Asperger's.

Yes I do, I believe I actually developed schizoaffective disorder to allow me to do many things I probably couldn't have done with just autism.

For example I've become an excellent driver in my 6 speed manual and I can self service my car and I'm a computer person by nature.

I do. I had therapy to help in preschool, but it didn't really change things much.

Yes I do. Why do they make things so small?

Somewhat. I never learned how to tie my shoes normally, for one thing. I'm also terrible at soldering, and I tend to break things or lose pieces when I disassemble electronics. I also have difficulty playing video games that requiire quick, precise responses.

I have fine motor skill issues, though it is most noticeable through my writing. My teachers make me either type my responses or have me read it out to them. I can write neatly, but it takes an extremely long time.

I don't. I almost never did or ever. I might even be ahead of others when it comes to fine motor.
As a child, I'm best with arts and crafts that I par off or done better than the models. It helps that crafting is my special interest.

But I would like to understand that kind of struggle... :| I've been always confused and curious about the motor impaired.
I even tried to understand it by having self impose handicaps while I'm crafting. (E.g.: Caffeine induced hyperactivity/twitching/agitation, working on a moving vehicle in the dark, etc...)

The only kind I ever relate to is time reaction and speed. It's probably why I couldn't go competitive even if I have the dexterity to perform complex stuff. I only have precision, but no speed.
It always feel like it's always on a ceiling and no matter how many times I practice, it barely improves and is usually temporary or easily deconditioned. It only goes as far as muscle memory.

Sure the closest thing I got is crappy handwriting. But it's the speed that makes it crappy. I go badly or as imprecise as if I ever add speed.

In short, my Fine Motor is:
Better in terms of dexterity even past NT average standards. But time reaction and speed? It's somewhat between average to above aspie standards and below to average NT standards.
The former is usually the compensation or cost for the latter.

Overall fine-motor wise, I'm fine as long as I slow down and be mindful.

However, slowing down does not stop me from making a mess with eating utensils. I also have some difficulty tying my hair, and recently found out what people mean when they tell me I tie my shoes the "wrong" way.

I remember when I first started piano lessons, my teacher was getting impatient that I still haven't quite figured out how isolate my fingers to hit the keys, and he started to poke my hand with a toothpick.

My overall coordination is to moderately to fairly severely affected. I cannot type very fast at all even at my best when typing class. I could get to 35 words a minute but only for a short paragraph, then my hands would ball up & beyond that short paragraph I could only do between 5-10 words a minutes. I could never really catch a ball more 10 percent of the time unless it was a large playground ball or basketball thrown softly, forget catching a baseball whether softball or hardball didn't matter. Got hit in the face with the baseball quite often when trying to catch one. never was able to catch it. My cursive always sucked, printing is just ok. Forget art. I was 26 years old before I could focus both eyes at once.

Production type jobs never worked for me. Truck driving is ok for me even though there is a mild degree of production expected the things that cause a loss of production for effects the more normal truck driver even more than me such that our overall production become reasonably similar. This is because they are things that tend to be beyond our control. this allows me to catch up.

I do maintenance for a living but I would say I'm pretty clumsy. I constantly drop things such as boxes or screws or washers, tools I'm using ,etc. It takes me a bit of time to put things together that have quite a few parts because of dropping parts or tool slipping, struggling to remember how it goes back together, etc. I bump into things at times and bang my head. Some of that is just spatial awareness but some is fine motor.

I've always had something of a talent for using my fine motor skills for doing creative and artistic things like free-hand drawing and sewing and crafts. But I'm lucky if I can successfully do something that requires gross motor skills. Also I'm handed, so I'm supposed to be even more klutzy and sloppy with my fine motor skills. And be doomed to writhe in hellfire for all of eternity, if I lived in a different century and/or country, anyway.

That is a prime reason I very rarely have a go at video games. I also struggle with those brain training games because of it.
