Terror recruits often seem to come from vulnerable backgrounds. But new evidence suggests that those suffering from traits of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) could be more at risk of being radicalised. It follows a number of high-profile cases where autism appears to have played a role in the offender’s behaviour. So if people with ASD could be at higher risk, how can we protect them from falling under the spell of terror organisation such as Islamic State?

That's right, give society even more reason to hate us, so not only we're 'more likely' to be mass shooters at primary schools, we are also 'more likely' to be terrorists.

Then people wonder why I keep quiet about my sh***y AS. I don't want any negative stigma to define me.

Oh come on surely we ain't that stupid to become brainwashed by muslim bombers ffs. I thought we were 'solo'?

As said in the article the study is in its infancy, yet another very preliminary hypothesis about autism being trotted out as click bait. That said I can see a link as bieng plausable. I can envision autistics who feel like a failure in their life bieng drawn to cause and reconition. Religious fundementalism is black and white thinking right and wrong, good and evil.

To combat this if it is a thing I would use a logic based approach emphasizing the likelihood of failure and being caught leading to a ruined life.

Quote:
From the article: "It is important to caution here that there is no substantial link between ASD and terrorism... [Personal characteristics] such as fantasy, obsessiveness (extreme compulsiveness), the need for routine/predictability and social/communication difficulties can [merely] increase the vulnerability of any person..."

I say the article was written quite irresponsibly.

There is no direct link. Anybody who says that is talking garbage.

They are playing on the fact that autistic people are supposed to be "gullible" and "suggestible"; hence, they might take heed of the arguments of, say, Islamicists.

Autistic people are not that stupid, by and large.
