Hi everybody,
I made a post a few weeks ago regarding my new job, describing how I am being intimidated and patronised by my supervisor for the symptoms relating to my NLD, (I.E struggling to learn tasks, making mistakes, sequencing problems etc) My supervisor is getting very frustrated with me and I fear I will be forced out. I was honest about my NLD as that is something that affects me on a daily basis but I haven't told them about my other conditions such as, otitis externa which is ear eczema. I have been off work this week due to the eczema giving me an ear infection and I fear they will also use this as an excuse to get rid of me on top of the NLD. I have ben getting ear infections every few months for the past 4 or 5 years, my dad has it too but mine is more severe as I get itchy ears every day.
I also suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and polycystic ovaries. My irritable bowel syndrome is worse when I am ill, when it's hot, when I eat when I'm out and when I am on period.
With my polycyctic ovaries I get heavy and painful periods along with fatigue.
I was afraid if I mentioned all these conditions my employers definitely wouldn't had offered me the position.
I need to work to help support myself and my wife, and the government is forcing people with disabilities into work so I am screwed basically.
How are people with disabilities meant to work if we are in constant fear of being fired due to our symproms and aren't being supported? There needs to be better laws to protect and support those with disabilities.
I've had Crohn's disease for 45 years... all my working life, in fact. I don't work now, but in the later years this caused incredible fatigue and became a bit of a problem at work. The kept sending me to an independent occupational health assessor, but it rather backfired on my employer because they said I should be covered by the Disablement Discrimination Act (DDA). This does mean that they have to make certain accommodations for you at work. I still felt I was being bullied and harassed, but I was made redundant before it came to anything... and I was quite happy with the outcome of the redundancy.
Check out the DDA first of all then maybe raise it with HR. Raising things with my immediate boss never seemed to get me anywhere.
