Hi All:

As we all know from numerous statements by me, Carly Fleischmann is my hero and inspiration in the autism community. That leads me to the question who is your autism hero or role model? I hope to have a master list of them all or at least the ones that people submit. Feel free to also add a little blerp about why that person is on your list. If you can link to websites or videos of such person so others can get inspired.

I don't have any "heroes" or "role models," really.

But I do admire somebody like Temple Grandin.

upvote on Temple G. I've heard a lot about her and how she is so amazing. She's on my "do research into list"

I have a lot of heroes/autistic people that inspire me, but one that really sticks with me is this kid. He's too sweet :D .

It's an odd thing about me.

I've never, in my life, ever had a "hero" or "role model," per se. Not even when I was first aware of the world at age 5.

I believe I can attribute that to what may be called "autistic selfishness."

I don't embrace other people as much as others. Not enough to have "role models" or "heroes."

But I've always had a basic "liking" for people.

I don't really hold with role models either. I don't see it as "autistic selfishness" though, I think I'm just strongly egalitarian, I try not to look up to anybody or to look down on them. Once or twice somebody or other has suggested that I'm some kind of a hero to them, and it just embarrasses me, and I think "don't follow me, I'm lost too." To a degree I used to see John Lennon as one, until I found out what a jerk he could be at times. Not that he was autistic. I have a fairly high regard for Temple Grandin but I'm practically a vegan, so there's a bit of animosity there. I just see something a particular person has done as admirable, without extending my admiration to the whole person.

Not really into the role model thing. There are people like Carly and Temple I admire for autism awareness and I have been inspired to try teaching about autism in forums. Alex Plank for creating Wrong Planet.

There was another person who created Wrong Planet with Alex. But Alex stayed the course.

I like anyone, autistic or not, who has overcome great odds to succeed.

Cat videos are my favorite things to watch, and that one was especially sweet. Pets are really a comfort.
