So this might sound a but corny, but I'm looking for a pen pal of sorts to communicate with me mainly via electronic means (on-site PM highly encouraged but can be migrated to my work email if need be). The purpose of this request is pretty simple to allow me to build a working friendship with someone who "just gets it". Yes, my fiancee gets it, but I feel as if only having her to talk to is putting an unfair load onto her when she already has a crazy family to deal with, her schooling, and trying to find us a place to live before January of next year... I don't feel right adding this onto her as well.
What specifically am I seeking?: any person who is a member of this site age 18 or older (for safety reasons I cannot assign anyone under age 18 to this role) who wishes to be in regular communication with me as a friend.
How does this work exactly?: Simple, you send me a PM with a little bit about you and I review your information and ask any follow-up questions to narrow down the list of possible people. And I select the 3 I feel best match me.
Once the "On-Boarding" process completes, how will we communicate?: preferably through in-site PM thus making a unified experience for everyone and preserving the confidentiality of things like email addresses since all communication is integrated into this site.
Why would I benefit from this?: simple, as a person-to-person connection with someone who understands and can relate. note: I cannot relate to everything since every person's situation is different.
Who exactly is eligible for possible selection?: anyone age 18 or older who is a member of this site. There is no preference towards age (beyond the 18+ requirement), gender (as assigned or identified) or any other such attribute. Since I value everyone.
Is this like a job? No just a friendly interpersonal connection since I often get lonely and don't have many friends.
What happens if I don't get selected? Nothing. I will still keep in touch with anyone who wishes to reach out to me in response to this thread so no one feels left out, but I only have a finite amount of energy and time to respond so those who are selected are guaranteed a response within 24-72 hours, all others are guaranteed a response within 5-7 days (depending on emotional and physical factors, workload, previous commitments (such as medical appointments, etc.), or acts of a higher power (severe weather, network or infrastructure problems, etc.). Note I am only human so the time frames specified here are just approximate indows.
Can I opt-out of this "pen pal" thing if I find it's not for me? absolutely. once on-boarding is complete or at any time feel free to shoot me a PM and tell me you no longer wish to interact and that will be the end of that. It doesn't matter why, so long as i am notified and not left hanging.
Once you've selected your final 2-3 pen pals, can I still reach out? Yes! Don't be afraid to reach out to me and I'll do my best to respond to the best of my abilities.
I'm under the age of 18 can I still contact you? Sure! but such conversations will be restricted to on-site PM only, thus no one feels left out.
Why are you doing this? Simple, I get lonely a lot and don't want to only have my fiancee be the only person in my support network. Plus, the colleagues at work have lives outside of work.
