Try using some of these for some "internal chuckles"...basically giving them a taste of their own medicine, as it were, by engaging in a living parody of their antics :)

1. "You seem [insert negative emotion]. But I've got no idea why."

2. "Here's some good advice: stop caring about what other people think, because chances are, most of them don't give a damn about you."

3. "Wow, you seem very sure about the interpretation of that situation. I don't think in black and white like that, though: I see the grey area, I see a range of possible interpretations."

4. "Even if the rest of the crowd at your table orders [Beer brand A], you can still order [Beer brand B]. It's a free country you know."

5. "You wanna know how to get ahead at work? Just watch every episode of Game of Thrones, then chit-chat with your co-workers and boss about it." [If you're feeling daring, follow it up with "Go on, admit it! You've always felt compelled to apply some of the stuff you learned from that show to the workplace!!" :P ]

6. "How are you?" [NT responds, "good, and you?"] "No! No!! I mean how are you, I want to know how your health is, what your happiness is, etc..."

7. "You want some good advice? Next time somebody invites you to something and you don't wanna go, just accept anyway and don't show - they'll probably figure it out. (That's the best cultural advice we ever got from the Japanese btw. :P )"

8. "You know the best way to tell for sure if somebody's a good person? If they automatically pick up and respond to your nonverbal signals. I mean, there's NO WAY somebody like that could be a psychopath."

P.S. better to use this on a female, and see how she responds.
P.P.S. you can always substitute "by the number of Facebook friends they have".

I don't even really want to mess with NTs -- I just want for them to not mess with me. :(

If your prime goal is to mess around with other people you aren't going to achieve anything good.

I would recommend to try to establish trust and kindness, but also be desensitized from if other people don't happen to think you are cool. In fact that's a start to becoming a more attractive person.

Try to focus on how your values and other people's values are win win or the same, don't focus on where they differ.

I don't think most of these would do all that much to mess with anyone.

Saying something like "You look angry" without adding "But I've got no idea why" would work better, I think, and is pretty effective if you insist they do even when they deny it. It will likely put them in a worse mood.

The second is just blatant truth and something everyone should keep in mind. Caring less what other people might think is good advice for most people, period.

I would love to throw the 3rd at an ASD "expert"!

I echo the sentiment about not wanting to mess with anyone.

I don't think we should "mess" with NT people. It's fun to joke around about it, but autistic people can't help the fact that they were born autistic, and NT people can't help being born NT. As a society, I think we should be focusing more on what we can accomplish and what we *should* accomplish, as opposed to trying to "one up" each other. I believe the world is what we make of it, and I don't want to make the world into a place where there's unnecessary conflict.

[[Shudder]] That would be my response if I was reading on an NT forum and there was a thread called "Ways to Mess with ASD People". Messing with groups on purpose is a destructive behaviour, and probably one of the best ways to reinforce negative stereotypes. There's nothing constructive about it, it's on the same level as those who come to WP to troll.

I appreciate that you meant this as humour, though it's a fail from me.

Loads of people at my works watch Game of Thrones and they talk about it all the time. I haven't got a clue what they're on about but I don't feel messed with.

I don't get it.

Messing with NTs (and not messing with them as individuals but because they are members of the NT group) seems pointless at best, and suicidal at worst. They out number us, and have all of the power. That's for starters. Second malicious humor has to work as humor. I don't think that the humor would go over if you're trying to spoof the normal way of thinking of most people. Your goal would be to contrive a situation in which you best an NT by using your autistic way of thinking, and for the NT to perceive it that way, and to get that the joke is at their expense for being an NT. That would be hard to pull off, and what most often would happen would be that you would just come off as a wierdo with an attitude who says strange stuff that doesn't make any sense. You would not come off as some clever savant who "puts me in my place".

I think the " live and let live" philosophy would be best for both NT's and aspies.

Best way to mess with NTs is to confuse them.
It matters not how, or why. Whether with intentions of malice or lighthearted humor or whatnot -- or what 'risk'. To do it or not to: that's the choice.

Oh, and, to be able to mess with people AND get away with it is, in essence, a social skill. A complex one, too, because it had to take account on several things along with the utmost basic ones, in order to deliver a good one. :skull:

you're contradicting yourself. If messing with folks, and getting away with it, is such a complex social skill then folks who lack social skills (like folks autism spectrum) shouldn't attempt it.
