A comment directed to me on the National autistic society forum-

Quote:
I researched the subject you mentioned earlier, Ibfound it contradictory st first, but eventually got what it meant, Non Verbal, but verbal, I don’t see that in you, I know it is more complex and think I understand it, I may be wrong,

you speak well, I see so much emotion, the way you articulate, you understand pain, you FEEL sorrow, you show anger, frustration. I can see that, you are not just using language without realising the meaning of it, That is a key factor in the diagnosis of NVLD.

I don't see those with NVLD as using language without a grasp of meaning. Or am I wrong? I think even those with a fairly similar dx can misunderstand NVLD.

How can somebody know whether or not you have a "nonverbal learning disability" if that person hasn't met you in person?

Many of the features of NVLD involve what may be termed body dyspraxia/clumsiness. One cannot see how "clumsy" a person is if all they're doing is chatting on an Internet forum, minus actual film footage.

Wait, was the person saying that you can't have NVLD because you have and show emotions?

I think you could interpret it that way.

I can't post film footage but I quote from an email from my father when asking him about how I was as a child.

Quote:
On the other hand, you tended to stutter a bit and were physically not too well coordinated, probably because you are left handed.

My prep school headmaster described me as badly coordinated to my public school headmaster. My stepdaughter has said I walk as though I'm drunk.

No one of the main characteristics of NVLD is good understand of the meaning and intricacies behind words. It's very similar if not identical to Grandin's Verbal Fact Thinker. I was diagnosed with it a few years ago because of the very large (as of the most recent testing 55 point) difference between my VIQ and PIQ with my VIQ being the higher one of course. But it doesn't account for my sensory issues and limited interests/routine so I lean more towards ASD for myself but I think if a person has sensory/routine/social issues and the IQ breakdown/phenotype of NVLD they should be diagnosed with ASD with a note that says NVLD/Auditory Verbal phenotype. That not understanding emotions thing is just a stereotype for anyone on the spectrum/something similar. Some do have alexthymia but others just have trouble applying things in practice. By the way, I wanted to say that I appreciate your posts firemonkey I know you sometimes feel think you are ignored and disliked here but that's certainly not the case on my end!
