It is a lot harder to get off the street than it is to stay off the street.
Best possible (utopian fantasy) option is that no one need to beg. I honestly have to think the only thing wrong with begging, as a matter of survival, is that there are people who have to beg to survive. I think there are far worse things a person could do to get money, and if you're friend can stay above water by ebegging long enough to find a better solution, then so be it.
Sometimes there are legitimate reasons that a job is not the best option (or an option at all).
It took three weeks at my last job to get my first paycheck. That check amounted to less than$80. It wasn't even enough to get through the day, let alone two more weeks until I could get paid again. The job honestly didn't help at all, it just made things worse.
I don't know where your friend is at, there may be government options. California has general relief. I don't know the specifics of it, I think the state will lone a resident $300 a month for a few months. I've never used GR before.
He may be able to find something, though.
