I am planning on posting something in another website titled 10 Things Autistics Wish You Would Stop Saying/Doing. As part of the development, I would like to know what to put on this list based on what “Autistics” say not just what 1 Autistic says.

One of the things I would put would be, “but you’re so smart how can you be autistic”.

Anymore ideas?

Stop trying to get me to "use my common sense."

To stop assuming that an autistic person's meltdown is a conscious behaviour, and to stop getting mad at us for it.

To stop saying that autistics lack empathy or that we aren't emotional or imaginative.

To stop writing autistic characters that are robotic savants who have no sense of social norms.

To stop patronizing and looking down on autistics that require more support.

(These apply to everyone, not just NTs.)

'Look at me when I'm talking to you.'
I had a Dr say that a few months ago. He told me I was being rude

Yes TheAP, I know it doesn’t just apply to NTs but that would be a very long title for this thread to explain!  :D

Stop thinking we are all good at math.

Stop thinking we are all variants of Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory

"You can't be autistic, you...(are married, are a mom, have a job, look so normal, etc.)"

I'm not a vehicle for your expectations, and you come across as if you're invalidating my experiences and struggles.

Stop telling me that I need to be like everyone else.

"But you're so smart, you're just not trying hard enough."
As applied to jobs, relationships, people skills, organization, scheduling, budgeting, math...

Or, "oh that's just a different way of thinking"
Or "everybody goes through that, it's nothing".
Or "no you can't be autistic because..."

If you try hard enough you can do anything. But plenty of autistics say it also.

Acknowledging we are human with different skill sets does not make one a lazy excuse making bum.

A thing is, some of these being brought up have been said by lower functioning autistics to higher functioning autistics and vice versa.

I myself have been guilty of asking how someone can be autistic and have achieved so much.

To anyone, whether right or wrong -- maybe the biggest hypocrisy of all humans:
Especially in case of disclosure.

"How could you understand? You're XYZ. You won't understand." AND "Get your act together! Just because you're XYZ, that doesn't give you an excuse."

Emphasis and denial. In the name of empathy and apathy. Of choices, chances, and circumstances. Kinda why some people refuse to open up, eh?

It'd have to specify that it means something related to autism, though.

Grrrr.
