As much as I enjoy and still enjoy my special interest in the Beatles, I feel like there's not much else I can do with it. There's only so many times I can go over the same story and trivia. I'm wanting to find a new interest but I have no idea where to start or what I like. I find it difficult to stick to anything cause I get bored easily. I have this huge desire to be really smart or knowledgeable in a field of study but I can't find anything that remotely intrigues me. I guess it doesn't help that I have ADHD and depression. Does anyone have any ideas about how to find a new interest?

Do you play an instrument?

Whether you do or, or not you can just build upon the Beatles to explore music in general.
Either as a listener, or as performer.

You apparently like George Harrison even when he was in his Eastern phase (I do to). The Beatles had many branches and roots. They explored novel areas like Indian raga music, but you could imbibe in the American Black blues roots of the Beatles as well. The Beatles are a good starting point to go any direction of music you wanna explore.

I used to, but I lost interest.

That sounds interesting, I've been exposed to other 60s-70s music similar to the Beatles during my listening journey. I mostly like the Beatles for the story and the "lore" of their fame.

Maybe strength training? Learning the function and pathway of every muscle and putting it into practice can be fascinating and rewarding. It's also great for ADHD in my experience.

I would try to help, but, not sure how I can, as my special interests have all, evolved on their own, and/or have stemmed from other interests. I'm not sure one can decide to make something a special interest, however, perhaps it is possible. It is, certainly, worth trying. I, quickly become obsessed with countries, regions, cities, towns, but, particularly, countries for some reason, as the result of other, underlying obsessions/special interests. For instance, I am obsessed with certain sub-genres of electronic music, that had come out of Berlin, Germany, and, a couple years, ago, I became hugely obsessed with Berlin, and have acquired extensive knowledge of most aspects of Berlin. Another example I could give, is my special interest in architecture, which, evolved into an obsession with historical architecture preservation.

You mentioned being interested in the story and lore of the Beatles fame. Perhaps, there is another band of which there's a similarly intriguing story. If you are anything like me, I acquire immense satisfaction by simply connecting dots/learning the evolution of various things. Perhaps, this could be the same for you, and based on this, it could simply be a matter of choosing another subject that requires this sort of journey. I will do some brainstorming...

I'm in-between interests right now, too. It's awful. I can't pick and choose my interests, or the manner in which I want to go about devoting myself to one, so I've found that the best method is to expose myself to as broad a range of ideas and subjects as possible. There's always the chance that I'll latch onto one. If I was you, I'd wander the aisles at a library for an hour or two, just reading titles, and see what catches your fancy.

I wish I could get interested in exercising. I'm only doing a bare minimum cardio routine but I'll look into it.

That's it! I really liked seeing how drastically the Beatles changed throughout the years and how their personalities and attitudes fit into the decisions they made. I'm not sure what other bands I like that have such a rich history though.

That sounds like a good idea. I would love to get into something where I could distinguish things, if that makes sense. Like being able to know the name of a bug just by looking at its wings, or knowing the date of a coin by seeing a picture of it. Too bad my working memory hates me haha. Good luck with your interests :]

How about climate change? You'll spend the rest of your life coping with it. Try to do what George or John would do in your place. I heard about Peak Oil in 1957, and planned my life accordingly.

That's very true, perhaps I'm trying too hard.

That sounds depressing, but it is a serious problem.

It is already depressing, and learning more is usually discouraging at first, but overall, I feel better doing what I can rather than just going down in semi-denial.

One day, some unusual clouds confused a young sparrow. A man walking by saw it laying on it's back, chirping loudly "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"
The man laughed "And you think your little legs are going to hold the sky up?"
The sparrow looked him in the eye and replied "One does what one can."
Italian folk tale.

I've gotta agree special interests generally find me not the other way around xD

I find if I am getting depressed I lose interest, making sure you are eating properly, exercise etc. Is important.

I watch videos on youtube, whatever catches my interest in the suggestions. You may stumble across a channel, person, interest that grabs you. Its not by choice that you find the next one but it chooses you.
